jeremiah 7:11
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, saith Jehovah.

i've been told because they used to be open from 7am to 11pm before they went 24 hours.

ammy 08-28-2005 05:12 AM

snopes says that julio is right!

7-Eleven traces its roots to June 1927 when the Southland Ice Co. was formed to supply ice for storing and shipping food during the hot Texas summers. The 7-Eleven name was introduced in 1945 to highlight the long hours they worked, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; the convenience stores began staying open around the clock in 1963. In 1988, the company was taken private in a leveraged buyout that left a legacy of debt, which led to bankruptcy in 1990 after Southland defaulted on $1.8 billion in bonds

Our 7 11’s here are still open from 7 till 11.
A teacher at school told me once something like: People used to play dice outside the American 7 11’s, and I don’t know, 7 and 11 are the rolls to get when you play dice or something, I don’t know……

It’s a vague memory. He was misinformed, it would seem.

He was a doofus.

No, that sounds much more plausible than the Snopes version. The convenience store chain presumably didn't have a name before. Finally, someone thinks, "Hey, various rough characters are always loitering outside our stores, not buying anything, gambling illegally, and making it unappealing for people to come anywhere near the store. Let's name our chain '7-11' as a tribute to their wild gambling spirit!"

This has to be the answer. All that crap about staying upon from seven to eleven is lies! Lies, I say!

The answer for everything is in the bible. Thus the earth is 6000 years old.

Toast 08-28-2005 02:08 PM

There are two 7-11s that are right across the street from each other by my apartment.
