anti materialistic

I realized that I'm always thinking "I want this" and "I want that" and then once I get it I'm never really happy. I dont want to waste the money, space, or the environment anymore! Who's with me?

ANYONE?!

Oranjes 08-28-2005 03:26 AM

btw, I'm still going to buy "stuff," but I just want to be more careful.

ammy 08-28-2005 03:27 AM

we threw away an unbelievable amount of crap this last week while moving. it was soooo wonderful

mourninglight 08-28-2005 03:28 AM

i've tried this but somehow i never feel like i'm doing much good... or doing enough... ... ...

tho i do get momentary bits of happiness when i buy stuff i want

Oranjes 08-28-2005 03:31 AM

mourninglight 08-28-2005 03:33 AM

 That's a lot of stuff!

Sam and Mike 08-28-2005 01:51 PM

Buying things makes me happy. I enjoy being a consumer.

Ornjes is correct. Siddhartha Gautama is correct. Materialism fucking sucks!

It’s like an endless rat maze, convincing you that your ticket to contentment is that next piece of cheese, but as soon as you’ve got it, you find yourself pining for the next one. And like a total moron I crack open another doctor pepper and think about the next five albums I want to get because surely, the next five albums will accomplish what the last two hundred couldn’t. As if any material good would substitute whatever vacuous corner of my soul I’m trying to patch up. It’s all based upon the false premise of consumer capitalism. That we will be happy with more shit.

Is it a coincidence that everything that’s marketed is done so as a vice guised in virtue? That's part of why I hate advertisements so much, they encourage you to be evil.

Fathoms (unadored) 08-28-2005 07:22 PM

btw Ornjes, LOVE the avatar.

FearFactory 08-28-2005 07:23 PM

I'm split on the issue. I'm very materialistic, yet dislike being a consumer. But you could take away any of this shit I own with the exception of my music and I'd still be okay.

Luke de Spa 08-28-2005 07:33 PM

Everyone buy goats!

ammy 08-28-2005 07:35 PM

 goats are cheap!

Luke de Spa 08-28-2005 07:37 PM

If you're rolling in it you can also buy camels and cows.

ammy 08-28-2005 07:38 PM

Want to buy something grumpy and that likes spitting? Okay, how about something that provides milk for nourishment during droughts, can carry houses, and children on its back, has a third eyelid to wipe sand away, can live in desert temperatures and is environmentally friendly. More appealing? Then buy a camel.

ya. It's just all around pretty lame. When you realize you're working to buy things you'll end up throwing away someday, you realize something's wrong. Oh and on top of that, think of what it's doing to our environment. We're wasting our lives to for nothing!

haha thanks!

Oranjes 08-28-2005 07:45 PM

If I'm still alive by the time I'm 35,(given that I'll hopefully have some education as well), I might just run for President! We need to a) live better lives b) save our environment

Greed has overridden this.

Trotskilicious 08-28-2005 07:59 PM

I wouldn't vote for you.
