Rick Beato breaks down 1979

The video is pointless, except for the fact that he has access to the song's stems. Never heard some of these tracks alone. Especially that bell patch during the chorus. Pretty cool.

Also, I forgot how to embed vids. sorry.

Corgan's Bluff 04-22-2018 09:54 PM

I like Rick Beato's series of analysing great songs.

And it proves: D'arcy could play a nice bass!

Insight_Scoop 04-22-2018 11:01 PM

This is really cool.

butthurt 04-22-2018 11:03 PM

Ram27 04-22-2018 11:47 PM

Better than Jack Fucking Bates?

Funbags 04-23-2018 03:52 AM

WRONG BEATO. The drum loop is an Alesis HR16. Jimmy comes in later in the song.

This Rick Beato series is pretty awesome though.

I really like his series, although I think 1979 isn't that interesting from a musical standpoint, it's a pretty simple pop song.
I think a songs like blank page, for martha or ruby (and a dozen others) would be much more interesting to analyze musically, the chord progressions, melodies, overall performance, but sadly it's impossible to get hands on any of the stems for those songs.

that's what's kind of a bummer about the series - he can't really go into analysis of songs other than major hits which have the stems uploaded somewhere on the internet. on the other hand, those are the songs 90% of people are familiar with.

myosis 04-23-2018 10:57 AM

why break it down when you can shake it down

WakaFlocka 04-23-2018 11:00 AM

I've seen a few videos from this guy too and wondered where he got the stems from. The APC video for Judith is cool. I remember when Cheno was promoting "Crosses" they released the stems for at least 3 of their songs that were fun to mix and play around with.

I believe they're all available for free online, because they're extracted from games like guitar hero or rockband. hence the limitations to only songs which are popular enough to end up in those games.
a good site to look for stems is http://remixpacks.ru

The series is called "what makes this song great" but he doesn't even explain what makes it great he just plays the isolated tracks and plays along on guitar

False advertising

houseofglass11 04-27-2018 03:22 AM

He also plays the chorus completely wrong.

lonelytowers 04-27-2018 12:58 PM

You can hear D'arcy (possibly James as well? sounds like 3 voices but could just be another Billy layer) singing. Neat.

Grox 04-28-2018 11:48 PM

yo the stems are all available on youtube you don't have to deal with him just search "1979 guitar" or "1979 fx" etc

What makes this Corgan's Bluff post a Corgan's Bluff post?

I'll tell you!

Starts off hot with a slick "Jackass Bates" call-out hook. Then slips right into a little bit of mind play with the listing of "1979" (in reference to a song title) followed immediately by years which are references to actual years

we're off to a great start, baby

now we get into the real meat of this CB classic with a couple of videos - because, let's be honest, it just wouldn't be a full-on Blufftacular without them. first we have a 90s performance involving D'arcy, sensible enough! but then the defining climax of the post comes with a Bowie/Frusciante collaboration that has nothing to do with either D'arcy or Jackass Bates! incredible. what is the reason for this video's inclusion? you'll never know. you don't deserve to

Was just a little personal rant on the "Disco King", nothing for you to ever think about for its existence...:

Bully could try the "Colonel Walter Kurtz" makeup to get more attention for the band...
