You know who was bigger than both SP and Oasis combined in the mid 90’s? Hootie and the blowfish.

End of thread.

Shallowed 09-16-2019 09:34 PM

You know what was even bigger than that?

Your dad's dick.

i'm neither form uk nor a fan of the band, btw. i actually can't stand them, probably why i so vividly remember when they were on top 20 years ago.

Oasis at their peak did not go pass 3-4000 tix outside of UK. Now that is a fact. I'll pick out randomly, Berlin '96 Huxley's Neue Welt cca 2000, Frankfurt - Offenbacher Stadthalle - 3000.
Now we are talking What's the story morning glory tour.

Yes, they did sell out 2 mights at Knebworth, but that is in - UK.

After Knebworth they went for US tour and played Irving fucking Plaza in NYC!
That is like 1500.

Brits just have to understand, Oasis, Blur, Muse, Suede were HUGE, but that planet is called UK.
Same thing like Arctic Monkeys...In UK they are huge, rest of Europe they play festivals at 2 pm, on the smallest stage festival has in front of like 150 ppl.
Outside UK, they were fucking irrelevant. Europe, Asia, US, Canada just didn't give a fuck about them.
Oasis at their peak played in Europe size venues TSP did '92-'94.

They played all the big arenas from their 95-98 tours in the United States and Canada

eviltimeban 09-18-2019 11:33 AM

Oasis also played big arenas and stadiums in South America.

i can guarantee you Muse attracts a bigger crowd than SP in canada today.

Irving Plaza??? I can't find them playing Irving Plaza
Oasis played The Academy in 1995
Paramount Theatre in 1996 for Morning Glory Tour (3,664)
and Hammerstein Ballroom in 1997 (2,200)

Muse? Muse began a bit later than these other bands and by their 4th album were playing Madison Square Garden back in 2007. Muse were just as big, if not bigger than the Pumpkins here in the US and have only gotten bigger.

topleybird 09-18-2019 02:44 PM

The Capitol Steps sold out Madison Square Garden five nights in a row in 2008 and have only gotten bigger

topleybird 09-18-2019 02:53 PM

INXS's back catalogue was outselling both SP and Oasis at the height of each band's fame

This isn't hard information to find, guys

topleybird 09-18-2019 02:54 PM

On September 27, 1996, I record in my diary that I heard "Rat in a Cage" three times on the radio and "Wonderwall" only once, CASE FUCKING CLOSED

Mals Marola 09-18-2019 03:00 PM

i believe the case was closed pages ago when i declared that Oasis never played within walking distance of my childhood home, while Pumpkins, Garbage, & The Backstreet Boys were doing exactly that

y'all are just goofing off, by this point!

MyKeyZ 09-18-2019 07:01 PM

I hate Oasis, by the way

Despite having made horrible music for close to 15 years now, Muse is STILL bigger than the Pumpkins ever were. In US, Canada, UK (definitely Europe, they’re the biggest rock band around in Europe)

Wrong

Funbags 09-20-2019 04:51 AM

Muse is bigger than the Pumpkins ever were?

Now that's bullshit.

VoxUpDoc 09-20-2019 05:59 AM

The British public don't understand how the music acts they know get pushed into their consciousness. They just think if something is on the radio it must be because it's the best in the world or at least the most popular. They don't understand the British music industry as an export business.

Oasis made two heavily derivative but solid albums that were in the right place at the right time. As much as I loathe Bill's current persona, he is much smarter than Noel or Liam. Smashing Pumpkins were a much bigger band than Oasis globally, but not in the UK because they didn't the same broad cultural appeal.

High Flying Birds is NG trying to sound like an artist by doing what he's always done: mimicking better acts. He's out of his depth and ripping off Bowie's Black Star branding shows a lack of self-awareness only surpassed by his own fanbase. I cannot stress enough how thick and ignorant Noel and Liam are, yet the press parade them around as witty, because they're gobshites that thick northerners look up to.

Muse have been shite for 15 years. Anyway.

Where are the Machina and Zwan re-issues?

pre 1994 - sp had nothing at number 1 with gish or sd.

1994
oasis 1st album, number 1 in uk with 2 other markets top 5.

1995
oasis 2nd album, went number 1 in 6 markets, 2 others top 5.
mcis went number 1 in 4 markets, 3 others top 5

1997
oasis 3rd album, went number 1 in 6 markets, 4 others top 5.
1998
adore number 1 in 4 markets, 5 others top 5.

2000
oasis 4th album, went number 1 in 2 markets, 4 others top 5.
machina never got to number 1.

for singles:
oasis had 6 number 1 singles between 1995-1998
sp had only 1, 1979.

oasis album sales from the US and UK combined never even made half of their total world wide sales. they were huge everywhere, not just UK or USA.

It’s 100% true lmao Muse sell out stadiums everywhere else and have for 20 years
Sold out arenas in the US for 15

They’re bigger than SP ever were despite their music being total shite since Black Holes (and the dead cat bounce that was Drones)

ninsp 09-20-2019 07:35 AM

You must be on crack to think Muse were smaller then SP
