Listening to Cursive and Trail of Dead Back to Back

Yeah, that's more like it. :smoke:

Trotskilicious 03-28-2017 10:08 PM

trail of dead sucks

FlamingGlobes 03-28-2017 11:23 PM

YOU SUCK!

FlamingGlobes 03-28-2017 11:23 PM

*cries in the corner*

redbreegull 03-29-2017 01:14 AM

Trail of Dead does not suck. Some of their albums suck.

redbreegull 03-29-2017 01:17 AM

Source Tags and Worlds Apart are both fucking awesome. I'm actually surprised you don't like them trots

Trotskilicious 03-29-2017 01:22 AM

i listened to source tags several times and i remember exactly one song (Baudelaire)

this is also true of turn on the bright lights/interpol (nyc). interpol sucks.

Trotskilicious 03-29-2017 01:23 AM

for example its not like i remember every deerhunter song every time i listen to one of their records because its a lot of ambience for the most part, but man there's usually at least one or two infectious earworms in the first listen

redbreegull 03-29-2017 01:31 AM

I dunno Source Tags pulled me in immediately and I've only grown to love it more and more. There's a lot of awesome guitar interplay to appreciate

redbreegull 03-29-2017 01:31 AM

admit it you just hate them because eulogy likes them

Trotskilicious 03-29-2017 01:54 AM

i still like the kills a lot, so no

yeah. it's like, they definitely play some guitar, and there are drums and some vocals.

Which albums did you not like?

FlamingGlobes 03-29-2017 11:50 AM

No one has anything to say about Cursive, eh? Can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

tao of the dead is awful, for one

run2pee 03-30-2017 08:57 AM

Nah I liked tao, albeit the mixing was kinda harsh/grating

this is actually one of the best captures of the vision and aesthetic of STaC as an album I have ever read

Cursive's good. Even though the first four albums are the band's golden age, everything from the first album to Swollen (inclusive) has stuff worth listening to.

Gemini, though, I just found that one cringeworthy.

Somebody linked Kasher's latest solo album in another thread, and I tried to listen to it, but it just didn't do anything for me on the first listen. I miss when he sang like he had a cold all the time.

Trotskilicious 03-30-2017 11:49 AM

desperado by rihanna is better than anything trail of dead has ever recorded

MplsTaper 03-30-2017 12:30 PM

I am still down with Cursive.

I'm not in Omaha often but when I am O'Leaver's the bar a couple of them bought is a must stop.

the worst rihanna song is better than the best ToD song, tbh

Trotskilicious 03-30-2017 01:09 PM

I'm not the guy that linked Kasher's new solo album, but I've mentioned it a couple times and no one's bitten. I really like it. It kind of reminds me of a tamer Mama, I'm Swollen (which I loved). I do agree that early Cursive is the best, but I really like the latter albums quite a bit as well (especially Swollen). And as always, The Ugly Organ is a desert island disc. Not so hot on Gemini though I feel like I need to give it more spins before I write it off completely.

Lost Songs and IX are great

I enjoy century of self and tao of the dead but I won't bother defending them.

Good live band.

FlamingGlobes 04-16-2017 03:20 PM

I've yet to see them live :(

FlamingGlobes 04-16-2017 03:21 PM

I wasn't aware any of their stuff really needed defending though. They seem to be a pretty consistent band by my measurement. Either you like it or you don't? They're a pretty easy band to ignore if you don't care for them.

FlamingGlobes 04-16-2017 03:21 PM

I still maintain So Divided is vastly underrated, though.

FlamingGlobes 04-16-2017 03:22 PM

So Divided is like Pink Floyd meets Bowie-type shit. I love it.

Eulogy 04-16-2017 03:22 PM

I've seen them in three different tiny venues.

Rock and Roll Hotel in DC was An Event for sure.

Eulogy 04-16-2017 03:23 PM

I love witch 's web but the rest of so divided is pretty meh
