Was Tom Green funny?
Pretty sure no.
when he went out in public it was pretty hilarious. but aside from that he was a very low rent kaufman and freddy got fingered is probably one of the worst movies of all time
freddy got fingered is 100% great
a lot of my friends got some yuks from it... one of my friends would exasperatedly defend it for some reason. but it really was lowest common denominator stuff for me.
i feel really bad for the guy... used to watch the show he streamed from his living room. it was just really sad. but he's probably living comfortably enough i guess |
The first time I watched his show I laughed until I couldn't breathe - it was stupid, but it was 1999 and I don't think most of us had seen anything like it before.
Used to lose my shit over anything he did; nowadays I'd probably find it annoying but still chuckle more often than not.
I still would probably enjoy Freddy Got Fingered though. |
The Tom Green Show regularly made me laugh myself to tears.
FGF sucked but it's quotable. It's somewhere between Happy Gilmore and Austin Powers. Maybe a little lower than both. |
Upon retrospect, no.
I don't like comedy/prank shows that have a malicious bent to it.
How did he bag Drew Barrymore?
his looks

Come back, starfish.

The Tom Green Show was pretty unique for its time. It was definitely funny.
It doesn't hold up as well now, but still makes me chuckle a bit. Local radio station talked to Glenn Humplink a few months ago for shits and giggles, he really was incredibly pissed that Tom gave his number out on national television. |
i heard they don't even talk anymore.
i wouldn't either. don't mean to shit on him too much but he's a total wreck now

jackass kind of lost its way too. used to be hilarious public trolling then it was like "hurr we're going to jump naked into a dumpster of nails"... but they seemed returned to form with bad grandpa (though that probably had more to do with ryan dunn passing)
i don't remember a time when jackass wasn't 90% dont-try-this-at-home stunts.
the stunts were always the main draw in its heyday but there was a balance more or less (if i recall correctly)
the movies however though went from being about pranks to just straight up stupid stunts. i think the 3rd movie only had one "prank"... i could hardly get through it |

i think mostly what you've noticed changing is their budget i also think it's VERY INTERESTING that jackass goes to the MOMA but FGF is lampooned. I mean granted jackass is real dudes who hate themselves and have no cares about anything and it says a lot more about wasted american youth especially since tom green is a brain frozen Canadian weirdo |
this is how i felt 10+ years ago and i have not revisited the topic
Tom Greens Awesome. I saw him doing his standup act at a small, local comedy club last year and it was absolutely hilarious.
Freddy Got Fingereds a classic too. It's funny because a lot of it is actually autobiographical. The story was actually loosely based on his life: like the shit with his dad turning off all of the hot water and the family dinners ETC. " Dad, I'm a 27 year old man, I think I can eat a chicken sandwich".... Priceless. His T.V. shows aged incredibly well too. I Bought one of his home videos on VHS not too long ago for a buck at some decrepit old video store... Couldn't stop laughing my ass off |
thanks to the last post we can definitively say that tom green was definitely not funny
well aren't you a glum young man
some of the shit from his cable access show before people recognized him was hilarious
