new interview

so it is from the rockwalk ... fist they ask billy about the future (we have seen the clip of that before), then about the new line up, then jimmy talks about james and darcy ...
after watching that i kind a feel sorry for jeff, ginger and lisa

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:28 AM

wow....that interview changes my whole opinion of billy corgan and this reunion.

waltermcphilp 05-09-2008 12:28 AM

do tell.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:34 AM

i just thought this reunion was about making the best of a bad situation and amassing a new band of people who respect and love the songs and are willing to recreate them as well as create a new body of work worthy of the band. Looks like billy just wants to pool a group of hired hands to play all the shitty parts he writes.

Oh well, at least he inferred that he wants other people to record with him :(

tcm 05-09-2008 12:47 AM

i guess we know what "new pumpkins" means now. ;)

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:48 AM

no, because he still didn't denounce the fact they'd be recording with the band.

it just turns out new pumpkins is a revolving door. whatever, after this i don't really care what happens in or around this band anymore.

tcm 05-09-2008 12:50 AM

c'mon Floppy Nono, face it... Jeff & co. are doomed. we all are doomed. the writing is on the wall.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:51 AM

they ARE doomed but it doesn't mean they won't record the new single

i think it's healthy to recognize the other musicians in the band for what they are. they may love the songs and the band, and certainly seem to do their best in all respects in order to help the band continue in a live setting, but i'm glad that billy isn't giving in to any kind of pressures to make jeff, ginger or lisa "official" members.

i think that billy and jimmy are making the best of the situation. being open to using other musicians to further the music should be a good thing. sure, it doesn't keep the cozy idea of a "band" in the defined sense of the word, but hopefully they will do what is best for the music, not the image of the smashing pumpkins.

tcm 05-09-2008 12:53 AM

ah Floppy Nono. always the optimist.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:55 AM

if i didn't try to keep a glimmer of hope about the band then i might as well quit liking them.

the light is growing dimmer though

tcm 05-09-2008 12:58 AM

"in spite of everything, i still believe that smashing pumpkins are good at heart." - Floppy Nono

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 12:59 AM

it's a good thing you said smashing pumpkins there instead of billy corgan. otherwise, that statement would have been false.

tcm 05-09-2008 01:00 AM

alright, i'm done.

cork_soaker 05-09-2008 01:00 AM

also, billy corgan is not plural yet

stumpycat 05-09-2008 01:02 AM

I think Billy is actually showing a lot of respect towards the old band and the place in music history it holds by not trying to re-create that moment in time. In that sense it really isn't just some hollow "reunion" or feeble re-creation of the band...it really is back to being about the idea behind the music. My guess is that the record company/commercial interests were pushing the former, and that perhaps Billy is finally learning to progress in a more healthy way.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2008 01:02 AM

keyword: yet.

MonteLDS 05-09-2008 01:05 AM

good interview.. i am glad to see the respect corgan gave his former bandmates.. i wonder if we will ever see them all on stage again

wHATcOLOR 05-09-2008 01:33 AM

i wish jim still chatted with james and d'arc'

1100ww 05-09-2008 01:49 AM

the nervousness/honesty in response to the james/d'arcy questions was almost painful to watch

Sarcastic Smile 05-09-2008 01:52 AM

Wait..before I press play, will Monte be in this video in any way?

Sarcastic Smile 05-09-2008 01:59 AM

"duo with a collective mentality" he cleared that right up

Come on, Monte.

Watch the Uli man date interview. He's not showing that much respect.

I really like that it's going to be a revolving door. The door is always going to be open for James! :)

"Only one version of the band that makes sense in that way, and that's the four original people" BC

"... I think you just have to go toward a different direction" BC

I think this is a very true evaluation of the band and how it worked originally and how it works today. I am glad to hear BC give credit where it is due and support and validate what the original pumpkins truly were and give an accurate description of what the band is today. This is extremely healthy and helpful in moving forward and being able to create what you want in the future.

On James and D'Arcy

"..have they talked..any word?" BC

I felt a bit sad when i watched him say this and immediately turn to Jimmy at this question. It still seems like a painful question though i think things have gotten a bit better. I think it's still very painful for Billy especially that he doesn't have communication with his past bandmates. I think he would like to have communication with them and as he has recently said he wishes that the business and music industry experience hadn't gotten in between friends and people (which is the most important part). I believe they will resolve this in due time. I especially hope so for Billy. It's a matter of having a heart to heart.

"Yeah, non-existant really, yeah we dont really have any communication with James and Darcy. Although I do think that, you know, that they contributed to this moment as much as I did or as much as Billy did. I mean I dont see this as like, I mean, whatever, I congratulate those two as well." JC

Jimmy on the other hand, i feel is much less sensitive on this issue, though thank the Lord that he admits their contributions as well and is singing a different tune than the past. Only good will come of it.

Pizza Club 05-09-2008 09:25 AM

If we never see the original 4 on stage together, it wouldn't break my heart. I love the new people. They are much better musicians and this is ultimately about the music. Sure, I miss the old days...but you end up playing county fairs when you hang on to that stuff.

Duke 05-09-2008 10:01 AM

I'm kind of surprised to see that they are going "the cure" route with the revolving door. If anything that should assure everyone that the band isn't going anywhere being that only Billy and Jimmy have any claim to it. Hopefully Jeff, Ginger and Lisa get to stick around for a while. Robert tries to keep the current lineup in tact as long as he can. Hopefully Billy does the same.

T&T 05-09-2008 10:22 AM

^^^
true dat

it's a good feeling... it's good respect to what the original band was.
and it's truly how things really are.
matt never really fit in
kenny neither.
auf der mar never really fit in either
so, since it's obvious people will always peg for the original members
it's smartest to say that only original members are pumpkins
who knows, billy might hire james to be guitarist again.
he won't boot jeff for the opertunity... 10 people back on stage.

Caine Walker 05-09-2008 10:31 AM

kind of like queens of the stone age, eh?

...

i don't think i like the idea of that.
