Mapping the tempo of Jellybelly throughout the MCIS tour

This is the nerdiest thing I've ever done

I took the tempo from the main riff, the thing that's 0:15 seconds into the studio version.

This is the fastest ever (original lineup) Jellybelly: https://archive.org/details/tsp1996-02-29.walkman.ana1

Bread Regal 08-09-2017 02:39 PM

this is precisely my shit. thanks dude.

Pizza Club 08-09-2017 03:43 PM

This is pretty cool

In my fantasy, the board is full of content like this, and posts about how much [insert random user here] sucks are banned by active and friendly mods.

I guess in my fantasy the band is also still well-liked and good.

Cool

Unsurprisingly, the Geek USA they play two songs later is also fucking blazing fast.

(Until Billy and D'arcy banter in the slow part lol)

what a strange thing to do

no judgement though, i just don't get it.

what about that appeals to you so much, Ram27?

whir 08-10-2017 07:57 AM

Very cool, thanks !

Shadaloo 08-10-2017 09:39 AM

This is really neat. I didn't actually realize they haven't properly brought out JB live since '97, yikes

It's just interesting from a technical standpoint. SP always likes to speed songs up live (remember that crazy fast Fuck You at the last metro show), and this is probably the most challenging song in the rotation for the MCIS tour (at least for the drums), so it's cool to see the progression throughout the tour

slunken 08-10-2017 10:30 PM

jimmy just wanted to leave the show sooner than normal and do more dangerous things

Bread Regal 08-11-2017 01:02 AM

no idea this existed. pretty funny.

Bread Regal 08-11-2017 01:03 AM

living makes me sick
so sick i wish i'd die

teh b0lly!!1 08-11-2017 01:09 AM

who's that band jb?

it's incredible how just having jimmy there makes it go "THIS IS PUMPKINS"

Bread Regal 08-11-2017 01:12 AM

it's jimmy and a group of kids with parents who spent a lot of money to send them to rock and roll summer camp

Jesus tap-dancing christ! The kid on bass is blowing it.

Also, Ram27 can you pls share a good quality recording of Matt playing Jellybelly? I don't seem to recall hearing a bootleg with him playing drums on that... my interest is piqued.

slurpee sucks

Ram27 08-11-2017 10:50 AM

this is the only semi-decent recording: https://archive.org/details/tsp1996-...11-12d1t09.shn Matt kinda cheats the intro here and doesn't play the snare rolls. That's the first recorded version

Here's the last time he did JB: https://archive.org/details/tsp1997-...-01-25t03.flac Played the snare rolls that time

Bread Regal 08-11-2017 11:38 AM

i think to get an accurate measurement, you should sample the whole song and not just the intro.

Bread Regal 08-11-2017 11:55 AM

cause the tempo does fluctuate a lot

JellyBelly is such a fun song to play on guitar, and I say that as someone who mainly plays drums.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Obviously a big part of the SP sound and how Jimmy plays is how much the tempo fluctuates. I was just doing this by hand (the intro seemed like a nice way to represent intended tempo), if there was a site to plug mp3s into I'd try that. I posted one on here a while back but that's gone now, it seems like.

I think the ideal would be a BPM graph of the whole song for each date, laid out in a way that ties the beginnings and ends together

smashingjj 08-13-2017 04:10 AM

nothing. I didn't know you back then.
