I remember seeing this live on the youtube at the time :smoke:

It's literally one of my favorite music-related videos on YouTube. So great.

I used to love Faith No More a while ago. Kinda fell off my listening habits tho.

I went to see them live in 2009 and it was a really memorable show. It was way too hot to the point where they had to leave the exit doors on the venue open, and even still the band came back for 3 encores.
Seeing Mike Patton belt out "this guy's in love with you" was the highlight of the evening.

angel dust > king for a day > album of the year > real thing = sol invictus

yeah real thing kinda sounds "like ass," it's not quite as singular as the other ones and i do really like sol invic
haven't spun this band in a minute, actually

I'm OK with this ranking. I do feel like Sol Invictus is just a hair under-rated though. A better comeback album than the likes of Soundgarden, Sabbath, et al produced.

I don't really see a big difference between KFAD, Sol and AOTY

smashingjj 03-18-2017 05:38 AM

i can't stand mike patton.

i always liked how aggressive FearFactory was defending them when someone made another RHCP vs FNM thread. :erm:

in terms of quality? i'd say KFAD is a bit higher but i guess AOTY and Sol are kinda close

Well, they all sound like latter day FNM -- because they are -- but they definitely have different feels from each other. King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime blows their sound even wider open than Angel Dust and has a lot going on musically speaking; Just a Man, Evidence etc are signature FNM. Then Album of the Year kind of blurs together a bit. It's a little murky and mushy. They were tired of being a band at the time and it really showed. Sol Invictus meanwhile is all eras beautifully tied together and somehow not sounding at all dated.

yeah it's great, in time it may even beat out Real Thing for me
but those three 90s albums are just definitive for me. up through album of the year there was this sort of effortless but controlled variety where they would surprise you on the record with something like "Striptease" or "She Love Me Not"
i didn't feel like i got much of that from Sol I but it was still pretty sweet

Trotskilicious 03-18-2017 07:52 PM

i hate this band!!!!!!!!

Elphenor 03-18-2017 08:04 PM

Some of Mike Patton's projects are almost acceptable

this is not one of them

I can never shake wanting to punch him in the face

Yeah, I knew you wouldn't like FNM. Big whoop.

Feel free to discuss some music you actually *do* like. Maybe you can help stimulate this end of the board.

Good point about Sol Invictus. I guess it's just a workhorse of an album. It does a good job re-establishing them after almost 20 years of absence. Should they ever record again, I bet they'd come up with some off the wall shit.

I was surprised they didn't do a reunion tour/album with Chuck Moseley after the cycle for Sol Invictus ran down. That woulda been pretty cool to see.

Didn't they do just that?

FlamingGlobes 03-19-2017 04:00 PM

No, just a couple of shows and a re-release of We Care A Lot

FlamingGlobes 03-19-2017 04:01 PM

I just thought that would've been the natural build-up to a Chuck reunion. Woulda been neat.

FlamingGlobes 03-19-2017 04:01 PM

I mean, Mike is always busy and could probably give two shits so why not.

toase 03-19-2017 04:46 PM

yeah that would be fun

we care a lot is nice too

East Rocket 04-26-2017 01:40 AM

They went downhill after getting rid of Jim Martin with the exception of King For A Day. Trey Spruance's guitar on that album is awesome.

TuralyonW3 04-26-2017 05:44 AM

Angel Dust is amazing.

The 3 after that are solid

Real Thing just sounds cheesy to me
