Orgy / Deadsy appreciation thread

Long time coming. Two of My favorite bands in high school and college. Totally changed my way of thinking about music and opened my horizons about music.

Here is an interview with Jay Gordon from a few years ago.

Interview with Elijah and Renn from many years ago

Catharine Wheel
have you ever
partaken of a
fecal meal?

ninsp 11-21-2017 10:55 PM

I enjoyed their style and sound. They were very unique in the nu-metal era.

Too bad Jay Gordon is a huge piece of shit now.

Catherine Wheel 11-21-2017 11:14 PM

He was always somewhat a piece of shit in the sense that he played in Elijah's band and then took his sound and ran with it. But still I did enjoy Orgy. They were Deadsy with more hooks and a more upbeat sound.

Catherine Wheel 11-21-2017 11:33 PM

I never would have discovered awesome bands like Vanity Beach and the Birthday Massacre who they influenced.

FoolofaTook 11-22-2017 02:40 AM

How's your research project coming along?

Catherine Wheel 11-22-2017 07:19 AM

I was going to go back to school in January to go through the IRB process but my mother passed recently and suddenly. So I've just been dealing with that. She was 71. So now I probably won't go back until June.

FoolofaTook 11-22-2017 10:36 AM

Sorry. My mom is 66. :( I am going back to school too.

On a lighter note how do you feel about the nickname Kimono Sharter?

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 05:59 PM

The problem with threads like these is that every time I enter one, I get an instant nostalgic pang to go back and re-visit these bands from my youth.

And they always suck.

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 06:01 PM

I do still like this song just a lil

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 06:03 PM

Hey, who wants to talk about Professional Murder Music? How about theSTART?

Seriously Catherine Shorter, you'd like that stuff if you're still rocking these bands all these years later.

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 06:04 PM

Also, Christopher Hall had a post-Stabbing Westward band called The Dreaming that was very much in this vein.

You're welcome.

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 06:04 PM

Motherfucker, where my Spineshank fans at?!

Catherine Wheel 11-22-2017 07:33 PM

I loved the Start. I still have their first album Shakedown and Death via satellite. Shame there was never much traction with that band. Or Vanity Beach. Vanity Beach's early stuff was really good too. Orgy fans should love Vanity Beach.

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 07:58 PM

But let me ask you

Do you ride for Taproot?

Catherine Wheel 11-22-2017 08:08 PM

Taproot are too nu metal. Besides Deftones I was never into that scene. I liked the synth rock and cyber metal / synth metal stuff better.

Catherine Wheel 11-22-2017 08:29 PM

Stuff that has more in common with Gary numan and depeche mode than Korn.

FlamingGlobes 11-22-2017 08:38 PM

Ah, got it. More of a Crossbreed guy than an Unloco guy.

Catherine Wheel 11-22-2017 08:43 PM

You like The Birthday Massacre? They were pretty well known. A lot more traction than the Start or vanity beach.

speaking of spin off projects by big industrial bands Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh had a post Orgy band called Julien K that are kind of similar to Orgy. They are still active I think.

What do you get when you mix Cher with Greg Allman? Techno-metal
And seriously is there anyone in rock with a deeper voice than Jay Gordon or Elijah Blue? Even in interviews their voices are scary and haunting as shit

Elijah Blue’s voice is amazing, Jay Gordon’s just sounds lame as shit nowadays. Sounds alright in the new Orgy recordings, despite the album being, well, horrible.

Matt Berniger has a deeper voice, IMO.

Catherine Wheel 11-24-2017 11:32 PM

I heard their latest release Talk Sick and thought some of it was alright. I like how it sounds more EDM than industrial. Like he's trying to stay somewhat relevant. His lyrics are terrible. Like he thinks he's a rapper now. That's what the lyrics remind me of. and the singing could be better. But I don't really mind the EDM elements.
