Echo & the Bunnymen singer is good friends with Chris Martin

He was even an inspiration for Coldplay on A Rush of Blood To The Head

I thought Elph would get a kick out of this since he hates Coldplay and is a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen and 80s post punk in general.

Robert Smith is friends with Blink 182

the song he did with them is excellent, actually

No it isn't. And friends..i doubt they talked since.

One of the most embarrassing thing i've watched was the vh1 special about the cure where like they had bands that were supposedly influenced by the cure cover their songs (while cure watched) with Marilyn Manson hosting. The whole thing almost made me ashamed to like the cure. I think Deftones was there though so you probably loved it.

ButtHash 04-11-2015 04:26 PM

They were like the one band that did a good job with that. Robert Smith wanted to sing Mascara on stage with them once but it didn't go through.

You should be. They're a phase every music lover needs to go through but as all phases it eventually must be left behind.

Trotskilicious 04-11-2015 05:27 PM

Umm, shocking that a good band would inspire a shitty copy-cat band?

they're about as ubiquitous as the beatles. i'm not suggesting you abandon such music, but that they are usually a gateway to other things.

Elphenor 04-11-2015 06:50 PM

I feel similarly about The Smiths but you shouldn't be ashamed to like them

Shallowed 04-11-2015 06:56 PM

I know exactly how to solve this "ashamed to like ____" crisis.

If you're ashamed to like a band, or should be ashamed to like a band, just say that they're a "guilty pleasure" instead.

Then we can have the conversation about how guilty pleasures are stupid and it's okay to like whatever you want.

Trotskilicious 04-11-2015 06:59 PM

fuzzy should be ashamed

The exploding boy 04-11-2015 07:00 PM

All i mean is The Cure has inspired some real shit bands

Less for the music he likes and more for the way he condescendingly talks at us about it.

slunken 04-11-2015 07:46 PM

shame

Shallowed 04-11-2015 08:04 PM

SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

Lol. I don't think they broadcasted that Cure special here. What bands paid tribute to them?

I saw the Metallica one aired, and god, that was fucking awful too. They literally had Avril Lavine performing Fuel and Limp Bizkit butchering Sanitarium. It was lame as hell.

The exploding boy 04-12-2015 01:07 AM

Blink 182, AFI (never heard of them but the were awful), Razorlight and Deftones.

I guess this was MTV actually not VH1. MTV Icon.

Mals Marola 04-12-2015 01:12 AM

i actually watched the mtv icon thing like last week

"ashamed to like t**** because a couple of stupid emo-punk bands or whatever played just like heaven lol? give me a break
& "all of this" is fucking beautiful, come off it!

Shallowed 04-12-2015 01:16 AM

When I liked blink-182, All of This was one of my least favourite songs of theirs. I thought it was too slow, quiet and the drumming was too boring.

Sonic Johnny 04-12-2015 01:19 AM

For real tho Blink 182 s/t is one of the most under appreciated albums ever made. Actually a fucking great album and people let the stigma of "emo" deter them from listening to it.

When I've got landline internet back in making an emo/skramz thread to educate you godless heathens.

well, what better time to revisit an out-character song involving blink 182 then when you no longer like blink 182!

yes, i spun it at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks after rediscovering how much i loved some of the tracks in particular, no irony involved just love for that album. well alright there's some corniness but really, they made something special there, and even at 13 i kinda held it as my favorite

No need. It was one of the first CDs I ever bought and it's burned into my memory.

Agreed. From what I saw, the people that were criticising it for being "emo" just missed the lame potty humour and silliness and couldn't handle something a bit more serious and artistic.

And besides, it's not nearly as emoish as they were making it out to be.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::dammit:

One of the biggest reasons Self-Titled falls flat was because it became the Tom Delonge show. He pretty much took over the majority of the song writing and what fans got was pretty much the debut Angles and Airwaves record.

To be fair though, the album does have a few quality tracks: Travis Barker kills it on here.

But come on, to make it out as if it's some unappreciated masterpiece? That's just hysterical- I actually have tears in my eyes. Quality argument aside, Tthe album was a huge hit... Sonic Johnny talking outta his ass again as per usual

Right, MTV Icons, that's what it was.

Jeeze, that is a pitiful line up:rofl:

For arguments sake: Take off your pants and Jacket is clearly the best Blink album ;)
