Daily Show - 10 YEAR anniversary!

This week is the 10 year anniversary of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart!

Comedy Central has put up clips of the very first episode, way back when Pres Clinton was getting impeached for Monica Lewinsky's hijinks.

a bunch of clips are here

I'm really glad this show didn't get canceled like all of Stewart's previous gigs.

That's not the first Daily Show.

No. Also, there's pretty much every episode up on thedailyshow.com anyway.

Craig kilborn hosted the daily show in the beginning

Banana 01-15-2009 07:39 PM

carapatricia 01-15-2009 09:25 PM

holy crap, i forgot about that.

Nimrod's Son 01-15-2009 09:38 PM

it was so much better

Caine Walker 01-15-2009 09:39 PM

oh shut up.

Nimrod's Son 01-15-2009 09:44 PM

what, i'm not allowed to have that opinion? i think the kilby version was superior.

pale blue eyes 01-15-2009 09:46 PM

I liked both versions but something about Craig Kilbourn's smugness put me off a bit. Sometimes it was just too much.

<sp3 01-15-2009 09:48 PM

i thought his 5 question bit was stupid.. but was the "moment of zen" not his idea originally?

Debaser 01-15-2009 09:49 PM

what, i'm not allowed to tell people with shitty opinions to shut up?

yeah, it was. so was most of the format.

Trotskilicious 01-15-2009 11:04 PM

No it wasn't. Especially not the format. They have writers and producers, you know.

He claimed 5 questions as intellectual property and got to keep it but Your Moment of Zen continues on the Daily Show to this day, which indicates that "Kilby" had little to do with it.

Kilborn had far less to do with the direction of the show than Stewart does today.

either jon stewart got bigger or his jackets got smaller.

let's take a moment to reflect on how awesome it is that strom thurmond is dead.

Trotskilicious 01-15-2009 11:17 PM

Funny how now that he's dead our president is black.

I'm sure if he was still alive the election would have killed him.

Thaniel Buckner 01-15-2009 11:22 PM

that would have been awesome to have happen.

Trotskilicious 01-15-2009 11:30 PM

I know. I don't recall anyone dying that got such an emphatic good from me.

ella 01-16-2009 12:19 AM

Colbert Report > Daily Show.

Yeah.

Youknowit.

Trotskilicious 01-16-2009 12:24 AM

Not lately.

carapatricia 01-16-2009 12:39 AM

Colbert Report is waaaay less than Daily Show. I mean, its funny and I love watching it, but it is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a stephen colbert ego stroke. I like daily show because its not all about Stewart. Yah, I know its called "colbert report" but...

Trotskilicious 01-16-2009 12:40 AM

...you don't "get" the Colbert Report do you

ella 01-16-2009 12:43 AM

Hmmm well I haven't watched it in a few months...so I can't argue. =(

I think most of it has to do with my huge crush on Colbert. So i'm biased in that respect.

That's what makes it so awesome....it's a satire on the whole O'reilly ego stroke.

carapatricia 01-16-2009 12:47 AM

No, i 'get' colbert, i said i love the show and i watch it all the time. but after a while it gets tired..

Trotskilicious 01-16-2009 12:49 AM

Well yeah that's what I was getting at.

But I wouldn't say it's an "ego-stroke" for him since that's all done facetiously.

Rickpat12 01-16-2009 01:36 AM

Stewart is too liberal for me...

Brute Squad 01-16-2009 02:37 AM

Colbert Report > Daily Show

Sure the Colbert doesn't get the high profile guests the Daily Show does, but that's because Colbert doesn't respect the guests. The entire show is in character, though I do recognize he's started slipping more and more over the years.
