Curious BC quote from 1998 Interview...

So, I was cleaning out my filing cabinet today and came across some old Rolling Stone magazines that I'd saved during my hardcore collecting phase. One of them was the Adore-era interview with Billy where he talks about the commercial failure of Adore and the charity tour, etc.

Well, the interviewer/response combo went like this:

When I saw you in the studio during the Adore sessions in January, you were recording a song, "Let Me Give The World To You", that sounded like a total hit. Why didn't you put it on the album?

Didn't fit. And I knew it was a hit song. There was another song you didn't hear that was a total hit song, a heavier song. I would play it for people and this is what they would say: "Maximum KROQ rotation."

Got me thinking long and hard -- what other song is he talking about? I really can't think of any other songs from that era that were "heavy". Thoughts?

Incidentally, this photo was also with the article - a classic.

I was just going to say that. Either that or that horrid cover of "I Want You To Want Me"...

so he avoids putting the obvious hit songs on the record then throws a total piss fit for the entire promotional phase of the record about it not selling as well as it could have.

entertainment.

RenewRevive 12-29-2007 12:33 PM

at the time of the interview he was probably playing the artistic integrity card to deal with adore's lack of sales. we all know billy is more than capable of failing to but the 'best' songs on an album. he would shortly do it again with machina, so what were the reasons then?

schwarzy 12-29-2007 01:21 PM

Cash Car Star definitely.
A good song, maybe not a hit but it could have worked well.

Honestly it doesn't fit at all on the record. Maybe if he recorded it "ava adore" way; it could have been cool, maybe...

LMGTWTY should have been on Adore.

ChaosEffect 12-29-2007 01:44 PM

Did the adore version of LMGTWTY ever leak or what?

Sarrod 12-29-2007 01:48 PM

Either Cash Car Star or just maybe the Saturnine version? Although that isn't heavy by rock standards, but I always like it a lot and it does have a heavier feel than Adore.

ChaosEffect 12-29-2007 01:55 PM

Also for keeping the better songs off the album see: Stellar, Ma Belle, Tilt and a lot of Zwan.

skipgo 12-29-2007 01:59 PM

billy needs a good whack upside the head.

Frankenstein 12-29-2007 02:42 PM

POP TART!!!

how could it be anything else? while that isn't 'heavy' it is heavier than most of Adore

Infraction.

Raskolnikov 12-29-2007 03:42 PM

Yeah, I guess that Cash Car Star would have been what we're talking about there. Funny how long that song was sitting around in the queue.

I agree that LMGTWTY would be weird on the album. Unless it was tucked back towards the end around the Blank Page area.

Frankenstein 12-29-2007 03:49 PM

no way. Cash Car Star is too metal for kroq.

think what was actually release officially. It has to be Real Love, or Reel Love or whatever.

It sounded horrid because it was clearly A DEMO.

Raskolnikov 12-29-2007 06:44 PM

The "I Want You..." cover was actually just performed once - 6/24/98 on KROQ's morning show. I don't think it was ever recorded. Don't have an MP3 here, but if nobody uploads it by next week, I could when I'm back with my other machine.

i_adore_adore 12-29-2007 06:46 PM

I have it on my other computer. But I'm too lazy to go downstairs and upload it. I'm sure someone else will.

I just wanted to brag about having it... not that it's like incredibly rare or anything.

Gossamer 12-29-2007 08:03 PM

I think he was definitely talking about Cash Car Star.

like 100% sure.

thereturnofpea 12-29-2007 09:12 PM

hello everybody, this is cutieming again.

paranoid 12-29-2007 09:38 PM

hey may have also been talking out of his ass, therefore no hard rockin kroq hit tune.
