MCIS Demos I
Where did this first batch of demos come from? Was this another one of BC's tapes? If so, do we know what the tape looks like?
According to spfc.org, these demos first appeared in 1996.
Are all circulating sources coming from that bootleg cd "Billy's Home Demos" (Plum Classics), or are there other sources available, maybe straight off the original tape? Or is the bootleg cd is the only known source? "Billy's Home Demos" and "MCIS Demos I" have identical tracklists. I've found an old set of shn files, and even though a tape is mentioned, these are very likely to also have come from the bootleg cd, but with a bit of a detour. This is what the text file says: Quote:
I can find a couple of rips online, but they all have issues and/or have some tracks missing. Unless a source closer to the hypothetical tape exists, a decent rip straight off the bootleg cd seems to be the best source we can get at this point. On a sidenote, there's a second bootleg cd, "Mellon Collie Demos" (Moonraker), that contains only 12 of the "MCIS Demos I" tracks, plus an interview. Do you think this bootleg cd shares its source with "Billy's Home Demos"? Or is one of the two bootlegs considerably better, qualitywise? hey bram I did some poking around on the old AMSP and apparently the "home demos bootleg CD" had 13 tracks whereas an "original tape" had more.
there are some posts around april of 96 where agnew doesn't know the names of many of the songs and was trying to transcribe lyrics. he also mentions things like "the 2nd unknown song from side 2 of the demos tape" so i would guess that "billy's home demos cd bootleg" was not the original source, but perhaps evolved into the "best source" |
saw this list posted in another thread for a tracklisting of the original tape on 1996-04-12. not sure who posted but simon coyle's info was within the quoted info:
> >MC&IS Demos boot. Does anyone have a track listing? > > The current track listing is: > > Marquis in Spades > Stumbleine > Unknown (may be called Gone) > Lily (acoustic) > To Forgive (acoustic) > Bullet with Butterfly Wings (acoustic) > Here is No Why (acoustic) > Galapogos (acoustic) > Unknown (instrumental) > Pennies > Blank > Rotten Apples > Ugly (demo version) > Wishing You Were > Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (demo version) > Meladori Magpie > Thirty-Three (demo version) > Beautiful (instrumental) |
another by agnew on 1996-04-05:
Khadejah J. Dein >I can't seem to find a listing for the songs available on the >MC&IS Demos boot. Does anyone have a track listing? Kinda. Not completely, though. >Note* I DID check the discography and boot discog. as well and > couldn't find a listing. Is it called something else? It's not in the discog, since that only deals w/ studio releases, and it's not in the bootlist, since that only deals w/ "official" (i.e. available-on-CD) boots... What we have for a list so far is: ? / stumbleine / ? / lily (my one and only) / to forgive / bwbw / here is no why / galapogos // ? / pennies / blank / rotten apples / ugly / ? / mcis / meladori magpie / thirty-three / beautiful These are all pretty definite. Guesses have been made for some of the unknowns, but I'm sure we'll find out when the next few singles make it out... All the songs from MCIS are Billy solo w/ guitar (or piano, for MCIS), except beautiful, which is a short clip from the end, instrumental, and thirty-three, which has a few tracks, including the shaking pill bottle, which sticks out much more than it does on MCIS... |
hope this helps

I have the Moonraker demo bootleg somewhere. Interesting that Pennies is listed on Agnew's track list. Does this mean there is a demo of Pennies floating around, or is it the same version from TAFH?
|
I read some things mentioning the zero single (which also came out in april) so I would assume its the same. don't forget these singles came out individually and prior to TAFH

thank you for your pity!

I upped Billy's Home Demos (Plum Classics). EAC log and art/disc scans included. I'd have to double check to see if the tracks are 100% but I'm currently at work so won't be able to until tonight or on Sunday.
Edit: I also upped The Mellon Collie Demos (Moonraker: 123). Same thing on scans and EAC log being included. CAIC, have you checked these logs? There's also Mellon Collie Demo's (IIE: pscs87) that doesn't appear to be on spfc.org but is likely a collection of tracks from Billy's Home Demos and The Mellon Collie Demos. |
hey, thanks!
where are they "upped"? |
They are on satur9.

Found some info on Mellon Collie Demo's (IIE: pscs87).
https://www.discogs.com/Smashing-Pum...elease/5639206 It appears to have the same 18 tracks as Billy's Home Demos. https://www.discogs.com/Smashing-Pum...elease/5227345 Edit: Looks like two different "labels" releasing the same bootleg 3 years apart. |
