Musicians whose deaths effected you?
I will probably legitimately cry when Phil Collins dies.

Not sure how many years BC has left in him - 30? 40? But when he does go - assuming I'm still alive, and regardless of how much further he dumps on the SP legacy in the meantime - it will affect me. Really owe a bunch to that guy in my life, turned my brain on to music in large part.
Past that, Morrissey is gonna be the end of an era for sure. Nobody else like that guy nowadays - the last true showman out there. |
Im sorry to say this D but I rejoiced when Collins announced his retirement.
I'm trying to think...but I come up with nothing. some MIGHT affect me when they happen, but in those that have died...no I don't think anyone. |

Peter Gabriel and Sting's death will have a big impact on me. Same with Stewart Copeland.

Probably Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone or Chris White of The Zombies. They're all getting quite old, their original guitarist already died just over ten years ago, and they've never performed in New Zealand as far as I'm aware.

maybe patrick stickles but it would be the same as if jonah hill dropped dead it's more like 'oh shit i'm going to die soon"

Cobain definitely did. Lux Interior.. ODB I'm still bummed about. Same with Mark Linkous and Vic Chestnut.. Rozz Williams.. Lennon and Darby Crash... pretty much any of the suicides from bands I liked. only peoplen i actually cried over was Cobain and Linkous. Layne Stayley too cuz he offers himself same day a friend did. Just reading about anyone's death usually affects me. I'm death obsessed.

I felt ambivalent when U2 and Green Day covered the saints are coming ,on the one hand, it was nice to give the skids exposure, on the other, it was done by Green Day and U2........... |

When Vic Chesnutt died I had only been aware of him and his music for less than a year, but I still sobbed like a goddamn baby when he passed. Mitch Mitchell's death also made me cry. Syd Barrett too.
These guys' passing will make me sad: Dylan Carlson Daniel Johnston D'arcy John Frusciante Isaac Brock John Darnielle Not just because of the awesome music they made, but because of the tragic lives they led which seeped into their work. I think a lot of artists don't get enough credit for baring their souls to us, especially after they've experienced so much hurt. It's a tremendous task to put yourself out there and make something that emotionally unites every person in the room. |
Most recently Jason Molina, Vic Chesnutt and Mark Linkous. Vic Chesnutt's passing sent me into a long depressive crisis... Most painful ever was Elliott Smith. I was five so too young to feel Kurt Cobain's death but I do remember seeing it on TV and I think it affected how I saw "rockstars" growing up.
I'll definitely mourn Morrissey... John Darnielle mostly annoys me now but yeah, I'll fucking cry. Actually I hate this thread, let me never open this again and never think about these people dying. |
Peter Steele
Jeff Hanneman Dave Brockie |
