i don't intend any sarcasm or snark or irony this this post. i kind of ignored / slept on billy joel for most of my life. just kind of aware he existed, he was kind of melded with elton john in my mind as one piano-playing entity that old people and theater kids liked, and didn't really pay him attention.

it's not possible to go through life without hearing some of his songs, and so naturally i've heard and enjoyed some, but not until yesterday did i ever listen to one of them of my own volition.

the refrain from piano man appeared in my mind, so i pulled it up on spotify and couldn't help but ask, "is this one of the best songs i've ever heard?" really, it was just lovely.

so i pulled up some greatest hits, and it never had occurred to me that it's the same guy who wrote and performed all these different, beautiful songs.

and the range too... uptown girl, only the good die young, it's still rock and roll to me, etc.

i plan to listen a bit more in the coming weeks as the mood strikes, but i just wanted to make the thread and see what other people think. when i was younger i think i was mostly searching for music that matched in some way the intensity of what i was feeling and not expressing, and so something like this just never resonated.

but now i'm able to appreciate how excellent some of this music is. billy joel!

what are some of his songs you enjoy the most? got any interesting info or trivia about him?

Jersey-adjacent, but I've been just now diving into Springsteen's catalog and it's been incredibly rewarding. I've always been really turned off by Billy Joel, who knows though, maybe I'll turn.

partially because they were my favorite songs that played at a costume store I worked for temporarily years ago

i listened to that song and i felt like parts of it could possibly be describing you, Mr. Goldberg. now, i don't have much to go on here, but that was the sense i got

It's sad because I really felt that Donald Trump truly cared for the citizens of America. In stark contrast to Joe Biden who is constantly talking down to the public, the military ETC. Biden doesn't give a damn about the ppl of the country, he only cares about power and control
