Hummer is the best SP song
Glynis is second

I'd say it's close but rhyming "bummer" with "hummer" ?

yeah that blows.

hummer and glynis are definitely up there along with drown. drown is pound for pound quintessential pumpkins

Oklahoma Sexual 10-13-2020 12:33 PM

rocket is also close to perfect

Ram27 10-13-2020 12:55 PM

Hummer and Rocket are peak SP. that's a little personal probably as I prefer the brighter SD stuff to the Eb MCIS stuff [ruby porcelina muzzle tonight etc]

wish they did Hummer way more on the MCIS tour. i believe they did it twice in 95; i really didn't care to hear geek usa at 800mph as much as they played it

houseofglass11 10-13-2020 03:13 PM

True they did rush a lot of songs live on the MCIS tour. Probably the coke.

reprise85 10-14-2020 11:44 PM

glynis never gets enough love so good call

GreenDogGlynis 10-15-2020 12:11 AM

Hummer and Glynis are good calls. Starla would have to be in there too

eviltimeban 10-15-2020 06:33 AM

I prefer the original mix of Glynis over the new one.

T&T 10-15-2020 09:39 AM

hummer is perfect SP

octave chords
shimmering soft guitar breakdowns
fuzz - OMG the fuzz is perfect
airy mutron biphase doubled vocals
lyrics about love

Run To Me 10-15-2020 09:47 AM

It’s probably the “best” but Mayo is still my fave

pinetree 10-15-2020 10:53 AM

I know songwriters often lose their youthful determination and enthusiasm when they get older, but it's crazy baffling how much better HUMMER is than anything on CYR.

LoveIsSuicide42 10-16-2020 08:40 PM

Hummer really is the best. There might be others that have connected with me more emotionally, but I can throw on Hummer on at absolutely any time and love every second of it. I can't even say that about the other top tier tracks on SD; there are times I don't want to listen to Mayo or Geek USA.

Muzzle might be the only other SP song that is as listenable.

Disco King 10-16-2020 10:51 PM

"Hummer" is about Corgan's hatred of the Jews. Looking back, we should have canceled it a lot time ago.

eviltimeban 10-17-2020 05:14 PM

I remember listening to SD that first week in July 1993, before it was "SIAMESE DREAM" and Hummer wasn't "Hummer" yet and just listening and listening, and I still had Disarm and Soma and Mayo to get to... those first time listens were special.

Here was this little band that really not many people knew about, making this mind-bendingly good music.

The vocal effect was a stock preset in the Eventide rack unit. Same one used live. Can’t recall the name, but it was basically an ultrashort chorus, with the doubled vocal detuned a tiny amount.

The mutton biphase showed up on the guitar to Hello Kitty Kat and on Apathy’s Last Kiss. I don’t think much else. Maybe Thirty-Three. That whole “we ran everything through it” was obviously just Vig messing around.

Yeah Hummer is has guitar huh

Zer0 Hour 10-17-2020 11:42 PM

Yeah Hummer is fucking perfection. Glynis and Rocket are great too.

Fuck, I miss the glory days.

Ram27 10-18-2020 01:05 AM

seriously hummer>rocket is just pure bliss

imagine if we got even 1/4 of something that good on CYR, and the other 19.75 songs were trash, we'd be over the moon

Zer0 Hour 10-18-2020 06:07 PM

Seriously. Whenever he’s managed to put out a half-decent song in the past 15-20 years (NONE of which have been as good as Hummer or Rocket) I’ve gotten my hopes up. But now he can’t even manage that. If he wanted to release and album of electronic dance schlock, fine. But why a DOUBLE album, and why involve the other band members? Just release it as a solo. That would make it easier to ignore and then we could all go on believing that SP would someday rise from the ashes to achieve mediocrity again.
