Who's going to the Chicago show this Thursday?
I'm scheduled to get in Wednesday evening and fly home at 7:30pm Monday. Staying in East Ukrainian Village about a 30 minute commute to the venue on the Blue Line + walking and a mile walk to The Empty Bottle. Chicago is one of the favorite cities...I tend to engage in a good amount of eating and drinking so let me know if you would like to partake in either. I stopped by Perks' place last Friday and picked up the loaner MK41s so let's all hope for the best.

i'd love to partake in the eating and drinking, but i'm a bit far away, unfortunately.
|
Kinda sad that the the Pumpkins are playing, in Chicago, with Jimmy, and this is the amount of interest that this thread generates. I didn't even bother posting before going to Philly.
|
your kinda sad.
|
I am really looking forward to witnessing Billy, Jimmy and James reuniting for a hometown show in the 2nd oldest opera house in the country.

Let's just call it a hunch.

Change of plans as of yesterday afternoon. It sounds like a friend and I will be heading to a couple more shows. Back in Chicago on Sunday to hang for a while before the flight home Monday night. The South is very foreign to me and I did not budget bail money into this trip. PMing Dade contact info for my next of kin in case I end up in the Hollows. If things go well let's get together at the Empty Bottle Sunday night.

I got into Midway after 9pm and caught the Orange Line to the Blue Line downtown. The elevator going down to the subway smelt like piss which was fine. The big cop also had a large K9 with him in a Muzzle. Got back to my friends place and he had some Old Styles waiting. Hungry yet? Went down to the closest Taqueria which was nice. Back to the apt for more Old Styles befote calling a cab to the Matchbox. Had a nice time there but after some Powers and whatever else it was back to the apt for more Old Styles and smokes. Breakfast is in 5 hours. Stay tuned for more hard hitting concert journalism.
|
They was a 24 hour CVS across from the Matchbox but the cab appeared and I missed my opportunity to get contact solution. There is no way I can tape this show with dry contacts. I am sorry to fail everyone like this. I must retreat.

you must get some sleep.
tell me more about these "old styles". are they like lager beers, or are they very different? |
Old Style was first brewed in 1902 by the G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin under the name Old Style Lager; it was popular in Wisconsin, the Chicago metro area, Minnesota, eastern Iowa, Lincoln, Nebraska, southwestern Michigan, Upper Michigan, South Dakota, and Fargo and Grand Forks, North Dakota. The original Heileman's Old Style brewery in La Crosse is now owned by the City Brewing Company. It brews La Crosse Lager, which is based upon the original Old Style recipe and is kräusened for 30 days. This beer may also be the basis for the brewery's nationally-distributed DB Hobbs brand. Though I already knew much of this information I did cheat for the details.
|
yes, i did find that as well. but what's the beer like?
|
Sorry, yes it's a very traditional and easy drinking lager. I'm not a big beer guy these days but I do enjoy Old Style. Very affordable as well.
Going to attempt some pictures from my phone in th next post. More familiar doing so on a desktop pc so they might end up gigantic. Let's see how it goes... |
Delicious Filipino breakfast at Uncle Mike's Place from 3 hours ago. Longanisa & Tocino combo with complimentary rice porridge soup. Garlic fried rice. The menu was not uploaded sideways.

Great, great show. However, my seat wasn't as great as I initially anticipated. Lots of jabber jaws. So much so that I'm nervous to listen to the recording. Hoping that the louder songs don't suffer as much. There were also people showing up late 4-5 songs in not knowing where to sit. This caused an usher to go around shinning a flashlight into peoples' faces asking to see their ticket to make sure they were in the correct seat. I knew I was so I passed over my ticket without engaging the usher in conversation. What a joy of an experience though.
Highlights for me were of course James receiving a standing ovation. As everyone already knows he played the SD suite and a new song or two later on. Whir and so many so many other songs were stellar. I purposefully avoided listening to audio, watching video and checking out setlists lists prior to this show because I didn't want to know what was going to happen next. I was pretty successful in that exercise and despite all of the people who spend good money on a ticket only to talk throughout the show instead of taking in the music it was an excellent time. I won't be able to give the recording a serious listen until Tuesday after work. Who knows if it will be worth uploading to LMA. If it's not posted there I will make sure that a link is posted here so those who want it can have it. That could be some time from now like the June '15 show. The quiet songs have very low levels while the louder songs peak around -11dB to -8dB. There will need to be tweaking in post which beyond raising over all gain levels is not my forte. That task will be given to a trusted friend. Also, apologies for the Silverfuck tease. The show started early...BC came on at 8:25. Hometown show so perhaps I was hoping for an out there encore after realizing James was in the fold. Still, a very good show and I'm glad I went. More later on which other shows we make it to. I don't have enough money to pay off cops but I do have enough for a road trip. |
