Grimes - "MCIS songs sounds like Lorde"

Stumbled across this strange quote

Quote:

Art Angels uses rock sounds in a really different context. Do you have thoughts on how rock can work in 2016?

I personally really love [British bands] like Bring Me the Horizon and Foals. There's definitely a future in rock, but it will probably be more fusion-oriented, like rock that uses 808s. Twenty One Pilots is kind of like that – it's sort of rock, but the sound is hip-hop. You know all those songs on [the Smashing Pumpkins'] Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness that almost sound like Lorde or something? I feel like that vibe has not been explored.

Just something to think about.

Everyone knows Lorde is 100 years old

slunken 05-14-2016 01:33 PM

she's praising the songs on MCIS for being ahead of their time, not Lorde for sounding like SP (or SP sounding like Lorde as you RSPF are reading it)

Ram27 05-14-2016 01:35 PM

grimes and lorde are both pretty terrible

future of music my ass

slunken 05-14-2016 01:42 PM

I'm not terribly into the music but I'm totally supportive of how she manages her live sounds all by herself with just a synth, a sampler, and a mixer.

As a gearhead it's just a joy to watch live. Total DIY. No computers.

dusty old rockist right here

even though you're young iirc

slunken 05-14-2016 02:04 PM

also want to supplement my above post by mentioning that I haven't seen her live since circa 2012 on the visions album. have no idea what she's doing now.

they call 'em crusters. cruisin' the bins and going on about how rare and expensive beatles albums are. totally clueless.

slunken 05-14-2016 02:07 PM

anyone find it strange how most bands in the 90s would tour with a keyboard player but would keep it kind of a secret so they wouldn't be lumped into some sort of keyboard scene

fooling the children into thinking it was pure rawk

slunken 05-14-2016 02:10 PM

even sp kept them tucked away in the dark

Elphenor 05-14-2016 02:13 PM

It's funny because from SD and onward there is practically more synthetic shit going on than say a Grimes album

There is a small market for lofi abrasive guitar music, but very few popular rock bands were ever in it, or interested in it

slunken 05-14-2016 02:15 PM

Why?

$$$

slunken 05-14-2016 02:16 PM

All of your favorite 90s bands are the (insert your least favorite current radio rock bands name here) of their day

slunken 05-14-2016 02:18 PM

slunken 05-14-2016 02:19 PM

this genre that doesn't necessarily fall into "nu-metal" or "radio metal" i call it "regret rock"

slunken 05-14-2016 02:21 PM

they even stopped playing that song on the radio years ago

slunken 05-14-2016 02:23 PM

thread is now the antithesis to fuzzyroes "fun punk" ideals

slunken 05-14-2016 02:26 PM

pearl jam were jocks, alice in chains were junkies, nirvana were losers, silverchair were children,

no wonder the only bands that still stand tall out of that stupid league are radiohead and nin

come at me bro

FlamingGlobes 05-14-2016 02:40 PM

Radiohead are that autistic kid in the back of the class that barely seems autistic. Nine Inch Nails is the quiet kid that makes cool art but then comes to school with a gun and mows everyone down.

FlamingGlobes 05-14-2016 02:42 PM

Candlebox is the really poor, smelly kid who shows up first day of school in hand-me downs and wearing shoes from Goodwill.

FlamingGlobes 05-14-2016 02:43 PM

Lush is that really hot chick everyone wants to fuck but never gets to. She disappears after high school and we never see or hear from her ever again.

FlamingGlobes 05-14-2016 02:45 PM

Korn is that kid that always gets picked on and beat up. You think he'll outgrow it and become a success story, but he never does.

Disco King 05-14-2016 10:20 PM

Can somebody post which MCIS songs apparently sound like Lorde songs, as well as some Lorde songs, so that I can judge for myself?

T&T 05-14-2016 10:26 PM

sounds just like

:erm:
i dunno what she's talking about.

Grox 05-14-2016 10:43 PM

read the quote last month. didn't strike me as odd. i think she's referring to the last suite of quiet/weird songs.
