Back to Billy?

Ogilala is now listed as an album by "Billy Corgan" on Spotify and Apple Music with new artwork.

Maybe this whole "WPC" thing isn't helping in search and discovery???

Maybe you should get ip banned?

FlamingGlobes 11-15-2017 08:40 PM

It's just this culture once again not giving him his due respect, that's all.

I much preferred Spaceboys 56 through 87.

Hard to understand what the underlying strategy was with the William Patrick Corgan thing... Seems odd in the days of search engines to go by a name no ones ever heard of before.

It's the equivalent to if Willie Nelson released an album under the William Hugh Nelson banner. No one would know who the hell it is.

Ya really gotta wonder what kind of hacks are managing Billy at this point.

The Omega Concern 11-15-2017 09:31 PM

hmmmm...its tough to figure out how to ride the divine and just let the chips fall where they may. It's my hope Darcy reminds of him that again.

fuzzyroes 11-15-2017 09:45 PM

Hey man, hows your music project coming along? You still writing new tracks?

Raskolnikov 11-15-2017 11:44 PM

This is interesting - that makes sense. Noticed the new artwork (which incidentally is a WAY cooler photo and makes for a better album cover, lol) but didn't know why.

The logistics of the whole William thing were self-evident when I was trying to buy tickets - no shows coming up for Billy Corgan, but a grip for William Patrick Corgan = logistical hell.

Butt Pope 11-16-2017 12:17 AM

I hope his next album is released under the moniker “Cum Dragon 17”

FoolofaTook 11-16-2017 02:14 AM

That's not very nice of you to say.

Shame on you.

Mals Marola 11-16-2017 02:53 AM

i was gonna say that i thought it was just a way to keep both the solo albums together, but looking at it now I see Future Embrace ain't even on there

perhaps he really is retracting the whole WPC thing, or only doing it for the physicals + concerts? shit, who knows, i'm sure we'll get some sort of statement of a statement about it shortly

FoolofaTook 11-16-2017 03:01 AM

The fact that you care enough to think about it and discuss it: Jesus Fuck.

Gooch 11-16-2017 03:03 AM

DAMMIT!!! What the fuck am I supposed to do with my WPC jacket and matching hat now???? There's 400 bucks down the drain....

Cool As Ice Cream 11-16-2017 03:59 AM

That whole WPC-shit was WILLIAM PATRICK CORGAN's game!
Seems we've come to an end not only of BILLY producing the producers... :banging:

THIS happens because record sales DO count.

...remember when Jimmy named his band "This" ?

LOL.

"While giving drum clinics in late 2009, Chamberlin announced his next project, a band called This. Describing the music as 'progressive, symphonic pop' he reported that the band, also including multi-instrumentalists Mike Reina and guitarist Anthony Pirog, would record with Roy Thomas Baker in Washington, D.C. in early 2010.

This released their first album, a six-track release titled Great Civilizations, on November 1, 2010 as a digital download only, on both Amazon and iTunes. No official release announcement was made even on the band's official website. Downloads from iTunes and Amazon were removed after there was confusion over the band's name. The new band name, Skysaw, was officially announced in December 2010."

If you look for PILLBOX, it is named under the WPC channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULv4EwpJlb8

But if you click on the WPC channel logo even this video doesn't show up anymore, but the message of NO content. Seems this channel is also given up:

Funbags 11-16-2017 07:03 AM

Yeah, I'd say the record company has taken over now that the tour and promo is done. It was probably driving them crazy that no one could find his music.

I don't think Billy can go by WPC unless it's just a ZuZu's release tbh.

I do remember that. Out of nowhere, the band digitally released a six-song EP under the name "THIS." I downloaded it off iTunes the three or four days they had it up. I think it would still be in my iTunes under that. I never bought the full album version they released as Skysaw a few months later.

I remember during some early interviews with the band, they made up some excuse about how they changed the band name because they wanted something that "reverberated spiritually" or some shit. A few months later, in another interview, Jimmy straight up said they changed the name because no one could Google the band, and it was essentially a bad joke that went too far.

What happened to that band? Did they officially end, or did it just sort of sputter out?

Grox 11-16-2017 01:38 PM

I think Billy has also had some good big profile media appearances lately, namely on Joe Rogan. he was great on Howard as usual, but Rogan has a huge audience, and that interview was so on point, there was a huge surge in interest and traffic for SP and Billy in the week since. Notice that he was billed as 'Billy Corgan' on Rogan & Howard. I think this record actually is doing well, or performing to expectations, and the name change is a wise move.

Rider 11-16-2017 01:49 PM

It did throw me for a loop the first time I went to listen to it on Spotify and nothing showed up under Billy Corgan.

Seems like people might be starting to try to make excuses for why this tanked even though he had the most press coverage for a new project that I have seen in decades.

Gollum 11-16-2017 05:13 PM

I noticed today on Spotify that Ogilala shows up at the top of the Smashing Pumpkins artist page. Usually, this is where the artist's newest release shows up or a playlist created by the artist. I've never seen an artist post a link to another artist's album like this.

SP has 3.8 million monthly listeners vs Billy Corgan who has 29K. This alone will put it in front of a lot more people.

FoolofaTook 11-16-2017 05:38 PM

well, fucking good for Billy William!

Corgan's Bluff 11-17-2017 05:30 AM

He should have started a decent transformation with BILLY WILLY...

MarquisInSpades 11-17-2017 06:53 AM

Just checked the YouTube channel. They've changed the name to BillyCorganVEVO, AND they changed the name of the artist to Billy Corgan on all songs. Meh, he had this coming. Most people born during the 00's don't even know the SP. Billy Corgan is pretty much the only name he's known by, to the general public/people who aren't huge fans of the band.
