WPC/John Lennon comparison.

I can't help but see a strong comparison to the way Billy has been behaving this last year or so and how John Lennon was operating before he was murdered. The whole alienating his fan base, moving away from the sound that defined him, starting up multiple non-musical ventures, documenting lengthy trips that are ultimately of no value, 50 is the new 40, making music for "people like me" mentality, interacting with fans in an open and unprecedented way (I have a personal insight to this) and lastly starting a family late into his life.

I don't know, maybe I am drawing false comparatives and these are all just normal broad-strokes that life takes at his age. I'm sure there aren't many overly obsessed Lennon buffs lurking here, but can anyone else see the parallels?

"...in his 1980 Playboy Magazine interview, his remembrance was more defined: “I’d spent five hours that morning trying to write a song that was meaningful and good, and I finally gave up and lay down. Then ‘Nowhere Man’ came, words and music, the whole damn thing, as I lay down…So letting it go is what the whole game is. You put your finger on it, it slips away, right? You know, you turn the lights on and the cockroaches run away. You can never grasp them.” "

Honestly they both seem like the type.

Do you guys think a similar Chapman event could happen to Billy at Zuzu's? I've always worried about this being a real threat when all the Facebook looney tunes post their stalkerish Billy pics. Seems like there is no security there.

I respect Corgan more than most, but comparing him to Lennon?

Get real

Speaking of which I found a local record store that has a copy of Teargarden vol. 1 in for like twenty bucks. Wondering if I should pull the trigger. Didn't originally out of disgust but at a reduced price owning my own obelisk could be worth the giggles. And I do like SFAS.

I wonder if the guy from Tame Impala will end up having a similar career to Lennon when he hits his late 30s / early 40s. This thread immediately made me think of Tame Impala the only artist you could ever really compare to Lennon.

fuzzyroes 08-26-2017 09:13 PM

Who's Tame Impala?

Catherine Wheel 08-26-2017 09:25 PM

They are an Australian acid rock band. The singer and chief songwriter is a dead ringer for John Lennon.

fuzzyroes 08-26-2017 09:28 PM

Hmmm sounds kinda cool actually. I guess they haven't really broke over here yet.

What's their choicest album to check out?

fuzzyroes 08-26-2017 09:29 PM

Jesus, these guys have been nominated for Grammy's and shit?

I guess I really am out of touch.

LOL

like a year ago when you told me you didn't know who the Weeknd is and he's like the biggest artist to ever come out of Canada and probably the biggest artist of his generation. and you had no clue who he was.

Bryan and Celine beg to differ.

Condensed version: Fan since '92, too young to see them on their first run, once reunion happens I see a ridiculous amount of shows, practically travel with the tour. I waited outside after the show several times and he would absolutely not shake anyone's hand. Wouldn't even touch a fan in in the slightest way. Fast forward to the Zuzu days. My band is on a small tour and we make it a point to stop by and see the place. To our surprise Billy is there and he's greeting people, playing music and just in an overall great mood. We spoke with him and he reached out and shook my hand.

Also just pointing out I wasn't speaking on musical accomplishments when comparing Billy to Lennon or anything of that nature.

Shallowed 08-28-2017 05:55 AM

Perhaps this is the most unprecedented thing we have seen Billy Corgan do since Billy would come out and not shake anyone's hand and later he would shake my hand
