i am here to claim that loveless is hands down better than sd.

over here in the #90swhatever corner.

i'm not sure if that is the general consensus here or not, but come fight me about it.

Eulogy 07-12-2018 11:06 AM

nah

Eulogy 07-12-2018 11:06 AM

I mean the rest of the internet probably agrees but

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 12:12 PM

FUCK YES

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 12:12 PM

Loveless is immaculate.

SD has Today and Spaceboy and Sweet Sweet and that diphthong of a vocalist.

redbreegull 07-12-2018 01:23 PM

hard to compare because even though the albums are really similar in some ways, Loveless is outside the bounds of what any casual music fan would ever appreciate, whereas Siamese Dream is pure pop.

I think Loveless is superior in its boldness, innovation, and probably the musicians it inspired.

But SD has better guitar, vocals, and songwriting, which to me is what is most important

redbreegull 07-12-2018 01:28 PM

I have a hard time really coming up with an answer though. It's like which is better, some Van Dyke Park album that only a tiny fraction of music listeners have ever heard, or Pet Sounds

from a critical perspective there is a strong argument to be made that Brian Wilson cheapened and commodified the trails which Van Dyke Park blazed and that if you are a TRUE fan of music it's obvious which one is more canonically/intelectually/artistically important

but a lot more people like Pet Sounds and sometimes delivering an artistic idea in a way which can get through to the masses is not necessarily a cheapening, but an incredible artistic feat in of itself

myosis 07-12-2018 01:51 PM

i prefer to listen to Isn't Anything most of the time

smashingjj 07-12-2018 01:52 PM

I PREFER THREE EYES BLINDED

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 02:00 PM

rbg no way sd has better vocals. bilinda/kevin are perfect.

mysos you on some whack shit. only no more sorry, all i need, suisfine, and several girls galore are on par with loveless.

nah Kevin Shields can hardly sing. His voice is smoother than Billy's but it's extremely limited in range and attack. He only sings in one mode basically, very straightforward and quiet, kind of like when you are 15 and are recording a demo late at night and are trying not to wake up your parents.

It fits perfectly with the music, no disrespect, but if we are comparing, Billy Corgan has a much wider range and palette of things he can do with his vocals.

redbreegull 07-12-2018 02:13 PM

or you know at least he could in 1993 in the studio

Billy going back and forth with his breathy and snarly vocals between any two given moments on SD is more dynamic than what Shields displays on the entirety of Loveless

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 02:18 PM

but loveless is not meant to be dynamic. it's more about mood and atmosphere being built and sustained. and as an album it is flawless from start to end. sd has duds and billy grates and bleats at times. you could never say that bilinda bleats, now could you?

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 02:20 PM

one more thing. kevin shields is a better guitarist than b0llzebub.

proof:

myosis 07-12-2018 02:27 PM

i wonder, what media do you use to listen to MBV albums? youTube?

FoolofaTook 07-12-2018 02:29 PM

mp3 player

is there a problem?

fuzzyroes 07-12-2018 11:08 PM

BAN!

Shallowed 07-12-2018 11:38 PM

These two are my absolute favourite albums of all time. I can't choose which one I like more.

FoolofaTook 07-13-2018 03:43 AM

^untroo mbv fan alert^

Shallowed 07-13-2018 05:19 AM

Don't say that!

Cool As Ice Cream 07-13-2018 05:37 AM

kevin shields has disowned you.

Cool As Ice Cream 07-13-2018 05:37 AM

billy crogan too.

FoolofaTook 07-13-2018 05:43 AM

:(

Cool As Ice Cream 07-13-2018 05:46 AM

it is indeed a sad day for shallowed.

FoolofaTook 07-13-2018 05:49 AM

maybe he should watch 120 days of sodom to cheer him up. i hear it's a joyous romp.

Shallowed 07-13-2018 06:30 AM

Well, it is a romp, at least.

bright_doom 07-13-2018 06:34 AM

At least billy had the decency to in-clude lyrics in his cd booklets. I have no idea what I'm singing along to on loveless, if anything.

fluxequalsrad 07-13-2018 09:04 AM

I originally listened to Loveless because of the comparisons that were made to Siamese Dream and I remember at the time only getting the Siamese Dream vibe from the guitar on 'Sometimes'.

Loveless is the better one for me, but its focus is much narrower than SD. If you ever have a chance to listen to Loveless a record player with pitch adjustment, give it a listen pitched up or down one semi tone and it completely changes the character.

The closest thing the pumpkins have to an MBV song is "Daydream".

artvase 07-13-2018 11:08 AM

Loveless is a more pure and honest album. Overall from start to finish it has and will continue to have a more lasting playability

Oh cmon man, SD drips honesty and emotion. Loveless obscures the lyrics where you literally can’t understand a single world on the album
