iit post jaw dropping drum performances

i'm honestly not sure what's my just my tendency to be really aware and scrutinizing of drummers or if this guy is really that awesome, but he just took this song and knocked it so out the fucking park you don't even see the park no more

teh b0lly!!1 07-10-2017 10:19 AM

drummers make so up much of the identity of a band. so underrated. obviously this is a jimmy c. fanboard so we're all quite spoiled in that department for mind boggling drum performances (quite literally, like HEADS ARE EXPLODING) but when there's a great grummer with an ATTITUDE in a band it just drives the whole thing up a notch in a way you almost can't describe

teh b0lly!!1 07-10-2017 10:28 AM

i mean this could EASILY turn into a 'fav jc performance' thread

look at that fucking ATTITUDE
this guy is juts the ultimate badass
it's ridiculous how much his sound and skill is integral to the sound of the band

kenny aronoff hey gusy wats goin on in this thread.jpg

TuralyonW3 07-10-2017 11:33 AM

Jellybelly is insane. No other rock drummer creates a "bed" like Jimmy. Just this big, jazzy, monstrous, precise yet free insane fucking drumming

TuralyonW3 07-10-2017 11:39 AM

TuralyonW3 07-10-2017 11:40 AM

the quiet fast cymbal work in that is the coolest sounding shit ever

Ram27 07-10-2017 12:58 PM

i'm trying to think of non pumpkins stuff to post here but really no one comes close to JC

Ram27 07-10-2017 12:59 PM

Matt Thomas is my favorite drummer for bands that are kicking around these days.

literally anything by deerhoof

greg saunier is my hero <3

smashingjj 07-10-2017 04:57 PM

I've seen them live 6 or 7 times and it's amazing every time and greg is a big part of that

smashingjj 07-10-2017 04:58 PM

with his tiny super basic drum kit which he manages to sound amazing. so much love

yup, I saw them live right after Runners Four came out, and his drumming blew me the fuck away

smashingjj 07-10-2017 05:00 PM

motorpsycho's previous drummer was pretty amazing

smashingjj 07-10-2017 05:04 PM

this is not a very well known band but both the guitarist and the drummer are in a league of their own. they split up a year or two ago after making six or seven albums.

the sound in this clip isn't great but it gives general idea about the drumming at least.

I put up a gig for them once and it turned out the drummer was like 21 and they had already recorded three albums I think. Jesus Christ

Damon Che of Don Caballero always comes to mind in these moments. I didn't exactly mull over the song choice, but this should do.

He would have been far more adequate a replacement when Jimmy was riding the white van.

teh b0lly!!1 07-11-2017 10:10 AM

what kind of an insult is that, anyway? "go ride around in a white van for the rest of your life"?

is it an American reference or turn of phrase that i'm not familiar with?

I think it's a reference to "low level" music artists driving from show to show in white box vans.

need to listen more don cab

Hard to find a good video but for my money Dan Tracy from Deafheaven is the best drummer going right now. The ride cymbal grooves in the first part of "Baby Blue" are pure JC

Marky always recruited the best drummers especially in the ATTITUDE department

Elphenor 07-12-2017 04:15 PM

RIP

Elphenor 07-12-2017 04:21 PM

John French's jazz fusion playing here for absolutely mind bending drumming

Elphenor 07-12-2017 04:30 PM

this whole album is NUTS for beat driven rock

yes

The Omega Concern 07-12-2017 09:41 PM

somebody's gotta do it...

This is Neil Peart in his 20's. Incomparable power, speed and precision. This 'song' (there's some charge riffs sprinkled about) doesn't show off Peart's versatility he came to in his 40's and beyond, but displays how he was the true center of Rush in their early days.

This thing is just over a minute, the last note will trip you out.
