Anyone listen to Sparklehorse?

I've been re-discovering Good Morning Spider these past few days. Great batch of tunes.

No.

Yes. Great band. Good Morning Spider is great - its kind of all over the place but the songs are strong. They've have so many sonic signatures, the ticky little drums, the static on the vocals. I was obsessed with them and Grandaddy in high school.

I skipped out on LCD Soundsystem at Coachella in 2007 (Sound of Silver) to see Sparklehorse play to a few tents over. They opened up with Happy Man and played all the jams. Good times.

Nice. Grandaddy is also really fucking good, I think I first heard their debut Under the Western Freeway about when their fourth LP dropped in 05 or 06.

wasn't that in your top 20 albums ever though?

slunken 03-14-2018 04:07 PM

GMS is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's really depressing though. Guy almost died before writing it. Lots of interesting sounds and techniques. I believe he recorded it in his rural home in Virginia.

Great documentary from the time he was making it:

Pig is such an insane album opener compared to the rest of the record.

Hmm, so instead of posting your own list because of the hypothetical fear that actually holding an original opinion open to criticism would destroy you, you still choose to antagonize me. I wonder what a clinical psychologist might make of you, but I bet you already know that from personal experience.

lmao

Agreed, the whole album is spectacular. I also really enjoy It's a Wonderful Life, although it doesn't flow as well as GMS.

No, I didn't already know from personal experience that you wonder what a clinical psychologist makes of me, but thanks for telling me.

You were the one antagonizing people liking Artic Monkeys though

lmao

Here's a blog that has four radio sessions, in case you haven't heard them.

The Distorted Ghost EP is worth tracking down too.

I guess in a roundabout way I was saying that he doesn't have a lot of b-sides so the EP's are worth grabbing. There's one for each record. So if you love GMS, then Distorted Ghost is a good one.

If you prefer Wonderful Life, I would be sure to check out Gold Day.

smashingjj 03-15-2018 05:38 PM

Sick of reviewers telling you things you don't want to know?

slunken 03-15-2018 05:49 PM

So sick.
