Or, you know, coincidentally, when he stopped writing about her the entire music business shifted to a completely different business model and "hits" became less of a thing. Either one of those, I guess.

Ram27 10-13-2014 01:04 PM

I could go the rest of my life without hearing about the state of the music industry.

I love music but I don't give the slightest fuck

The exploding boy 10-13-2014 01:18 PM

yeah cause BC never wrote a hit past SD......

uh, she mentioned at least 2 songs from mellon collie but okay

never knew where boys fear to tread had anything to do with trent reznor, always thought it was just one of his more abstract songs about nothing (i.e. Jellybelly?) that he was kinda actually having fun with and whatnot, doom samples and all

Araneae 10-13-2014 09:36 PM

Courtney can (still) be such a bitch. The fact that she thinks that Billy wrote Today about her is absolutely bizarre.

Elphenor 10-13-2014 10:10 PM

She must be an amazing lover or something though.

themadcaplaughs 10-13-2014 11:19 PM

It's her getting an inch and taking a mile. Billy has admitted he has written songs about her. Right off the top of my head he mentioned in the Siamese Dream liner notes that "Luna" is about her. Also, in some interview in 2004 (I think at one of the poetry readings) he called her one of the "loves of his life" or something along those lines.

But for her to say he wrote songs like "Where Boys Fear to Tread" and "Today" about her is ridiculous. He has told the story about what "Today" is about dozens of times, and he mentions in the notes for Mellon Collie that what Mals Marola said is pretty much spot on; "Where Boys Fear to Tread" was a riff he came up with on the spot and wrote some nonsense lyrics for.

I can see why he wants nothing to do with her.

that was one thing that kinda blew my mind and honestly i'm tryin to forget

the sweetest-sounding song on the album this side of spaceboy and it's pretty much about his adultery

i guess that's siamese dream for ya, just always thought that one was kind of the exception

Araneae 10-13-2014 11:48 PM

She's also kind of dismissing the two women that Billy spent a decade of his life with, respectively. He wrote a couple of songs about her, but she's not the reason why he was successful, which is essentially what she's trying to claim here. But she says a lot of things and she can be a bitch like that. During the 90s she started claiming that she was on the cover of PI and that those songs were about her, again that turned out to be untrue as well.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of grandiosity (either in fantasy or actual behavior), an overwhelming need for admiration, and usually a complete lack of empathy toward others. People with this disorder often believe they are of primary importance in everybody’s life or to anyone they meet. While this pattern of behavior may be appropriate for a king in 16th Century England, it is generally considered inappropriate for most ordinary people today.

I couldn't believe that Luna was about her and that he didn't write it for his wife (or fiance at the time of the song being written). Courtney was not deserving of such a beautiful song. She was the "other woman" that broke up his marriage cause he kept going back to her. He had some weird emotional addiction to her.

FANS

you guys know that Luna was in the first batch of songs written for SD, and debuted live in the summer of 1991, i.e. when he was dating Courtney?

Grox 10-14-2014 01:54 AM

Also keep in mind that the horrible suicidal depression BC always talked about that led to Today and Disarm was caused in large part by the enormous success of Nevermind compared to Gish, and by the fact that his ex-girlfriend had married and conceived a child with the biggest rock star in the world, and the messiah of the alternative nation that he always wanted to be and probably never imagined would get as big as it did. with regard to the depression that led to Today and Disarm, he talked a lot about how he "wanted to be a rock god" and failed at posing, so he wrote these open-hearted pop songs.

Bodies - "LOVE IS SUICIDE"
obviously about her

Grox 10-14-2014 01:56 AM

candy cane walks down
to build a bonfire, to break my fall
my baby, my sweet thing
just maybe we could lose ourselves this time
king of the horseflies, dark prince of death
his tragic forces are heaven sent
in sweet things, in a lovers breath
in knowing this was meant to be the last
a go-go-kids, a go-go-style
a suck suck kiss, a suck suck smile
as always, in young need
a velied promise to never die
on dead highways, her black beauties roam
for june angels, so far from home
for a love lost, a faded picture
to tread lightning, to ink the lavender skies
so get on the bomb
get back where you belong

null123 10-14-2014 02:02 AM

not even close - but the ones mentioned, i buy it

also of course billy would get off on his muse/lost love literally being named Love, there's probably way more references throughout SD and MCIS that haven't been mentioned

Grox 10-14-2014 02:05 AM

"king of the horseflies, dark prince of death"
^lines up with trent

null123 10-14-2014 02:06 AM

this goes beyond true and/or untrue fandom into just knowing too much about another person's life
i mean jeez he's just a guy who writes songs let him give his own account for fuck's sake

Grox 10-14-2014 04:45 AM

hes put all that stuff out there and you know he loves the attention

Ehh, sounds more like BC. He was the dark prince of rock n roll. Trent was just some tiny angry dude from Cleveland with a Wax Trax hard-on.

The exploding boy 10-14-2014 10:00 AM

No I really don't think at that point before he'd gone more gothy that BC would have referred to himself that way. IF that song really is partly about Trent, then that line must surely mean him.

Araneae 10-14-2014 10:22 AM

Did you forget about his Marked years? Billy was a geeky Goth kid far before he turned into an alternative rock star.

The exploding boy 10-14-2014 10:30 AM

yeah but shit during the post SD pre MCIS days (when this was written) nobody would have thought of him as the dark prince of death.
