Bands you want to like but don't.

My fellow pumpkin-heads, some of you may understand the topic. I think it would be cool to like the following bands for the reasons (mainly superficial!) stated in brackets:

The Cure (goth image)
Siouxsie And The Banshees (goth image, loved Siouxsie's voice and Siouxsie was/is cool/cute)
The Gits (I liked Mia Zapata and feel sorry for her)
Joy Division (Very dark, deep and poetic)
Type O Negative (Very dark, deep and death-obsessed)
Snake River Conspiracy (cool name, cute singer and cult band; twould be totally cool to be like 'hey you like Snake River Conspiracy?' to people who have no idea who they are. Like, totally.)

I still like a lot of the songs by the bands above of course, but I don't really consider myself a fan of any of them. Tragedy!!!:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I don't have reasons I would want to like a band if I don't like them. But I have a lot of well-respected bands I dislike, such as

My Bloody Valentine
Sonic Youth
Radiohead
Led Zeppelin
The Eagles
Neutral Milk Hotel
Sex Pistols
Iron Maiden
Johnny Cash
The Beatles
NIN
Pearl Jam

there's more, but typing this one handed (kid on shoulder, perverts) is hard

life's_a_drag 01-07-2018 06:38 PM

The Smith's
Interpol
The Clash
Jane's Addiction
Bad Religion
Radiohead
Lush
David Bowie
Meat Puppets
Not really a particular reason other than the fact that I haven't found a song I like a whole lot yet. Really just need to set some time to go through their discography and whatnot. I've seen interviews and live recordings from most of them, and they just seem like interesting bands to get into.

LaBelle 01-07-2018 06:53 PM

A Perfect Circle
Soundgarden
Ramones
The Darkness
The Dead Weather
The Strokes
Arctic Monkeys
In This Moment
Lacuna Coil
Led Zeppelin
No Doubt
Radiohead
Silverchair
Weezer
The Cure
Alice in Chains

All of these bands have songs I really like, but for whatever reason can't get through any of their albums.

I want to like every band, because the more things I have to like, the more satisfaction I will have.

I only like a small portion of those bands, though.

And I am not satisfied.

Disco King 01-07-2018 08:04 PM

Look, if I could take a pill that would make me like Limp Bizkit, I would.

overexposure to certain albums

i don't hate all of their output (there's too much and too many 'genres') but the beatles are never a band i'd choose to listen to. pink floyd either. even though i've enjoyed a track or two from both bands while tripping my brains out of my ears.

ilikeplanets 01-07-2018 08:21 PM

Also I hate Tool but I don't even want to like them

Can't think of a witty comeback, so I'll blame it on my auto-correct.

ilikeplanets 01-07-2018 09:36 PM

Auto-correct can be your worst enema

teh b0lly!!1 01-07-2018 10:26 PM

hello sir, i'm trying to reach the Bad Takes thread, can you please point me in the right direction?

OH, I'M ALREADY HERE, YOU SAY?

INTERESTING

Sonic Johnny 01-07-2018 11:58 PM

All i'm seeing in this thread is you confessing that you don't get two of the greatest bands of all time

fuzzyroes 01-08-2018 12:19 AM

David Bowie
Bob Dylan
Johnny Cash
Roy Orbison

fuzzyroes 01-08-2018 12:20 AM

All legendary artists, yes... But just stuff that I can't really get into despite the universal appeal.

the eagles are not well respected, so the pressure is off to like them

Boris

Mals Marola 01-08-2018 05:37 AM

yeah i've always felt like i was missing something with Bob Dylan, much as i like some of his songs

Shallowed 01-08-2018 07:19 AM

Don't feel bad about not like Neutral Milk Hotel.

toase 01-08-2018 07:49 AM

Garbage

Elphenor 01-08-2018 08:15 AM

not "bands" but It'd be neato if I could at least appreciate a small bit of hip hop

Elphenor 01-08-2018 08:21 AM

The Cure + Siouxsie + Joy Division + The Smiths

maybe 86% of what i listened to when I was 18

House of Bread 01-08-2018 10:41 AM

The Fall.

There's too damn much.

when I was 14, 28if's dad told me a limp bizkit is when a bunch of frat boys jizz onto a biscuit and make you eat it. I could never shake the association

cue joke about eating those biscuits being more pleasurable than listening to the band

(i've heard the eater is the one who cums last btw. you know, in case anyone's looking to play )

you can't really go wrong with starting with Live at the Witch Trials, the debut, if you enjoy punk to any degree

if not, then I kinda suggest a leap straight to The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall where you'll find the more colorful and ambitious tracks
