Opener for Sonic Youth 2001-2003?

I saw SY back in 2001 - 2003 at the Roxy in Boston. There was a great opening band that I never caught the name of, but they were an all girl band if that helps. Would anyone know what the name of this band is?

Many thanks!

I saw them around this time, but might be off by a year so I may not be of help. But the show I saw was led by two women and had a male drummer. "Magik markers," awesome noise band.

The site usually lists the opening bands:

Erase Errata might be it. I remember them being quite short, and with short hairstyles. I'm not sure about Magik Markers though, but I'll listen to both and see. Thanks again!

magik markers is good

O'Doyle Rules 05-03-2014 02:54 AM

It certainly wasn't Magik Markers that I remember, but I like what I've heard of them so far. I can't believe they are from CT, where I grew up, where nothing happens.

Erase errata ruled. This would have been around the time of their first record. Didn't care much for the others.

MusicMan4 05-03-2014 08:15 PM

my guess was magik markers
this was the era of SY bring wolf eyes and hair police on tour

slunken 05-03-2014 08:20 PM

i remember the ecstatic peace website around this time had some killer magik marker footage. their earliest live stuff sounded nothing like their albums.

anybody remember mouthus? they were like that too.

MusicMan4 05-03-2014 08:23 PM

saw mouthus several times at the no fun fest 8-)

slunken 05-03-2014 08:43 PM

oh cool what years - i used to really love them but never found an album that matched their live set

slunken 05-03-2014 08:43 PM

the only one i have left is the cousins of reggae split - one of the early ones

MusicMan4 05-03-2014 08:47 PM

w/ axolotl which is cool, but one year they performed in a big tent w/ psychedelic lights and shit and i can't find a vid of it :(

slunken 05-03-2014 09:03 PM

i learned not too long ago that axolotl (can't remember his name offhand) was sharing a house with james ferraro and spencer clark of skaters in berlin during this period (2007). mark mcguire of emeralds was staying there for a summer during this time as well.

2007 was a great year for post-noise cum new-age

mouthus = probably one of the best live acts i've seen

Man.

I would love to see hair police.

slunken 05-05-2014 08:59 PM

In Cincinnati in the early 00's you had to pay not to see them

slunken 05-05-2014 09:01 PM

this album blew my brain right out of my ears when i was in love with no-wave

2001's "other animals"

soniclovenoize 05-06-2014 10:40 AM

I saw them around this time, I really want to say it was either Sebadoh or Low.

slunken 05-06-2014 09:04 PM

yea it could have been one of those all-girl bands too

soniclovenoize 05-07-2014 09:50 AM

No I would have remembered that. It's more plausible it was someone boring like Low or Sebadoh whom I would later forget.
