New single "Aeronaut" on BBC 6 now

Chorus: "Lovers won't you mourn with me".

amoergosum 08-22-2017 05:53 AM

Did you record it?

AveryLoren 08-22-2017 07:23 AM

Horrid vocals, mostly piano, forgettable. Teargarden level stuff.

AveryLoren 08-22-2017 07:50 AM

This makes widow wake my mind seem like a hit single.

Ram27 08-22-2017 08:05 AM

Oh god he's actually going by William Patrick Corgan

Ram27 08-22-2017 08:06 AM

I think it's really lovely. Instrumentation is great - piano, strings. Kinda feels like a good Zwan song

Vocals are a bit shitty and of course the 'lovers'

DaveKShape 08-22-2017 08:11 AM

He really needs to chill with the quick, shuddery vibrato or whatever that is.

amoergosum 08-22-2017 08:13 AM

Awful vocal performance.

Forgettable song.

Uninspired.

AveryLoren 08-22-2017 08:20 AM

Aimless meandering, no structural dynamic, overuse of chord progressions, tired lyrical tropes. Glass/Zero is fucking dead and all we're left with WPC.

amoergosum 08-22-2017 08:22 AM

Rick Rubin's contribution:

I was actually pretty excited about the new album but that feeling vanished after listening to Aeronaut.

inkless 08-22-2017 08:38 AM

more i listen more i like

DemonUnicorns 08-22-2017 08:42 AM

It sounded ok, a little better than TBK stuff.

But then he repeated the last line waaaaaaay too many times. Killed the song which was already pretty mediocre.

wounded 08-22-2017 09:39 AM

I like it

Shadaloo 08-22-2017 10:04 AM

Well, better than anything off MTAE. Pretty if a tad repetitive.

Venom 08-22-2017 10:30 AM

It sucks.

amoergosum 08-22-2017 10:45 AM

Grox 08-22-2017 10:47 AM

wow i thought that was pretty great, horrible vocals aside. completely agree about that shuddery quick vibratro thing, but i like the song a lot & the way it's written, i fucking wish he could sing it in a pre-2007 voice. psyched for the new record, glad it's coming out this year

Sonic Johnny 08-22-2017 10:50 AM

This is hot garbage. He's at his worst trying to do a single hook, somehow made worse here by his limp crack at doing "Disarm" again. Bad even by his 2010s standard.

it wasn't good enough to sit in a can.

some Asus2, perhaps?

a few Dsus2 sprinkled about?

a nice shiny Cadd9 to end the measure (and for good measure)?

song is not terrible, except the vocals. better than anything on MTAE. it sounds like a demo.

most importantly it sounds like he gives a shit in this song, which is nice to hear

eyeboogers 08-22-2017 11:24 AM

Song is solid and for once hasn't been killed by over-production. I disagree about the vocals, though they are not his most impressive effort, the vocal performance has a lot more presence than anything off MTAE. I am really looking forward to this album, based on "Aeronaut" and the stated approach it should place somewhere in the top half of Corgan's discography.

MyKeyZ 08-22-2017 12:07 PM

Not feeling it. I think it's because the vocals, I just get no feeling from them. I think Billy is too focused on sounding "good" and "perfect" that he forgot that it needs to sound sincere and from the soul. I just don't hear that with this. You listen to older acoustic Billy only songs and you feel like he's leaving a piece of his soul on tape. Fragile and imperfect. It is those idiosyncrasies that made those songs what they are. It wasn't about sounding perfect and clean. I feel that sterile-ness sucks out a huge part of this track's heart and soul and honestly most of the later Billy material suffer from this. They end up sounding like Billy going through the motions.

Ram27 08-22-2017 12:14 PM

^ this is exactly right.

Imagine how crappy Stumbleine would be if he recorded it now. And that's even with great lyrics

MyKeyZ 08-22-2017 12:28 PM

Sadly, Rick Rubin is a shade of his former self and most likely just a yes man trying to record the perfect top 40 record. Honestly Billy needs someone like Flood in the studio again because he understands how not always sounding perfect can be a song's strength. He knows how certain layering makes a song more powerful and not every little element needs to crystal clear or perfectly delivered. It's the intention behind what you're laying down that comes across the most in a recording.

Elphenor 08-22-2017 12:28 PM

suck

amoergosum 08-22-2017 12:43 PM

I love how his vocals sounded in 2004...very heartfelt:

Whir34 08-22-2017 01:05 PM

Absolutely stunning song. First time I have heard real emotion in his voice for a whole. You're all deaf or something. Best work I have heard from Billy for a while. Can't stop listening, hope the rest of the album is as brilliant as this.
