The exploding boy 03-31-2015 12:41 PM

I think Hang 'em high is pretty good. His worst from the 60's 70's period is probably Joe Kidd. And even that is watchable.

You know who did great westerns in the revisionist era and doesn't get half the credit for them? Burt Lancaster.

I'd reccomend Lawman (one of my favorite westerns), The Scalphunters and Valdez is Coming.

It Follows

Must-see in theaters for horror fans (for sound design/music alone...need dat bass)

pavementtune 03-31-2015 10:46 PM

The Rover

and another depressing film made in Australia.
first 30 minutes I thought the story is so bad, it can't possibly get any better, but it still manages to drag you down.

if there is such a thing as "perfectly timed sound design that makes you want to die" - it's this one.

will I get through it in a cinema as a horror weakling, or should I better wait for the DVD and scream at home?

Tchocky 04-01-2015 06:06 PM

Watched Interstellar again.

Chris Nolan needs to learn how to write some actual interpersonal dialogue that doesn't sound like endless, droning exposition.

Other than that, yeah, cool as shit to watch in hi-def.

duovamp 04-01-2015 06:12 PM

He was the writer for that?

I loved this film. Thought it was very thought provoking and even brilliant at times.

Trotskilicious 04-01-2015 07:08 PM

He was great in Priscilla.

Last night I watched this

I think imdb's 5.1 rating was pretty fitting.

Trotskilicious 04-01-2015 07:11 PM

watching always sunny right now, i love how their non pc humor only serves to underscore what godawful people the gang are instead of seeming cheap gags at someones expense

i love how they all consider themselves not to be racist and still are

MusicMan4 04-01-2015 07:12 PM

Rhino you should watch Ravenous if you've never seen it

Trotskilicious 04-01-2015 07:14 PM

Catherine Wheel 04-01-2015 07:38 PM

Damon Albarn makes everything better. You can't go wrong with him.

Just watched Empire Records for the first time yesterday

I've heard a lot of good reviews about it but I was kinda disappointed... It's kind of just like a 90's version of the Breakfast Club. It was great for some 90's music store nostalgia though, and Renne Zelwigger was smoking hot when she was younger.

I give this movie a 6.5/10

Trotskilicious 04-02-2015 12:45 AM

just the tagline reminds me how much i hate that fucking movie

theyre sellin records but theyrenot sellin out

you lot should watch Ordinary Decent Criminal as well, D. Albarn on the soundtrack (with one of my favorites songs of his practically ever) & K. Space on the lead acting

fuzzyroes 04-02-2015 12:52 AM

Haha yeah it was actually pretty lame aside from some of the nostalgic charm. 6.5 is a little too generous I think. I'd give it more like a 5.

What's weird was that I was browsing thru movies on demand and this one got like an 89% score from the audience reviews. Usually a high audience rating is at least indicative that''ll be pretty entertaining.

I figured this would be right up my alley, but it's like they made it to be so stereotypically 90's... Some of it was good, some of it laughingly bad(which is kind of fun in it's on right I guess)

vixnix 04-02-2015 01:22 AM

Is that tag line not meant to be ironic and self-mocking? What's not to like about poking fun at how SERIOUS everything was in the 90s.

Remember Party of Five? Yeah. We went there, in the 90s. One of the decades had to...and it was ours.

Trotskilicious 04-02-2015 01:22 AM

fuck nostalgia

no

Trotskilicious 04-02-2015 01:24 AM

like all garbage from the 90s its about Being Real

fuzzyroes 04-02-2015 01:31 AM

Yeah the tag-line isn't meant to be ironic at all.

A major part of the plot line is that the owner of the "legendary, long lasting indie music shop" is about to turn it into a big-box retailer... Pretty much like one of those old Virgin mega stores or whatever and the kids and somewhat the manager decide to revolt against that... I.E. Not selling out.

fuzzyroes 04-02-2015 01:34 AM

The way the music store is portrayed in the film does seem like a dream place to work at.

I always figured I'd work at a music store as a kid... And then I become a teenager and adult and there isn't such a thing left around anymore... Story of my life.

fuzzyroes 04-02-2015 01:39 AM

I love how the guy 2nd from the right is dressed exactly like Kurt Cobain i n the poster and all throughout the movie: Has the exact same wool sweater that Cobain would always wear and had on during 94 unplugged, has the faded, ripped blue jeans with the pajama pant things underneath sticking out of the rips.

Trotskilicious 04-02-2015 01:40 AM

there is but youre so stuck in the past

fuzzyroes 04-02-2015 01:43 AM

Music stores are a total rarity. And they're mostly small shops that are self-owned with like 1 or 2 employees total... Good luck getting in at a place like that.
