I thought that Pale Horse or whatever shit from a few years ago was pretty good. I guess I'll give this a listen... in a month or maybe never. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FlamingGlobes 07-29-2020 06:06 AM

Please come back

FlamingGlobes 07-29-2020 06:07 AM

What the world needs now is new Faith No More

FlamingGlobes 07-29-2020 06:07 AM

And maybe a previously unreleased Beasties album.

FlamingGlobes 07-29-2020 06:35 AM

Oh but hey we're getting a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 remaster in the fall so I guess all hope is not lost.

Yeah, I just want more FNM in my life. I really liked Sol Invictus! I have a sneaking suspicion that in an alternate timeline minus Covid, we'd have had new material by them at this point. They were supposed to be doing a big North American tour with Korn (ugh) this summer before everything went to shit.

But yeah, I'll always check out whatever Mike Patton is making, even if it's not always my thing. More Tomahawk would be a good thing. And Mr. Bungle too!

Joey Goldberg 07-29-2020 10:29 AM

yeah i'm not too excited about the current iteration of "Bungle," tbh. i'm one of the few folk who actually wouldn't have minded if they'd stayed broken up, given the wildly high note they left things on w/ California & those shows

completely forgot about that Korn tour too, lol

I like it ok

Reminds me of turn into by the yeah yeah yeahs lol

Shadaloo 07-29-2020 07:03 PM

That right there's a pretty fascinating music video

I actually didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I am. Feels mature for him

Shadaloo 09-11-2020 01:16 AM

Album's pretty good as it turns out

Eulogy 09-11-2020 08:14 AM

I really enjoyed it on the first listen. Initial ranking for me is below pale emperor and above heaven upside down. Kept waiting for a deep six style banger and it never came, but still very good.

ninsp 09-11-2020 10:05 AM

I’m a way bigger fan of slower Manson (like Pale Emperor) so this hits the fuckin spot

Serious Bowie vibes

Aside from the single, does the rest of this album carry that current trend of LA-grown southern-rock-inspired music with drums that sound like boots stomping on a wooden floor and hands clapping, female choir as background vocals going "whoo-ooh-oooh", and bluesy guitars with slide licks going into hard power chords?

slunken 09-11-2020 07:39 PM

lol my dad is (was?) a fan of Shooter Jennings and every album by him that has a cover that looks like Antichrist Superstar starts with a spoken word sample like this.

butthurt 09-12-2020 02:16 AM

Perhaps this is the most dynamic thing we have seen the Mansons do since Trent Reznor would come out and play guitar on Beautiful People or in the small clip during 1996 in Dead to the World where we see Marilyn destroying drums and later he would play the tambourine in 2008.

I think there are some good songs on this album, but his voice is so shot that for me it's really painful to listen to. It sounds like they tried to cover it up with double tracking and slapback echo, but there is no hiding it. His voice has never been great, but it's really bad on this album. My throat hurts just listening to it.

No, but there's kind of an Elton John piano ballad

TuralyonW3 09-12-2020 10:43 AM

those two songs suck

I'm hearing a lot of tambourine!!!

slunken 09-12-2020 12:41 PM

apparently the last song ends with a locked groove on the LP version

killtrocity 09-13-2020 04:06 AM

good stuff. Video makes it more interesting

ninsp 09-13-2020 07:39 PM

This may be the best Manson album since Mechanical Animals. For me though, best album of 2020 would be Folklore.

I think he sounds alright. Yeah his voice is shot but the vocals are delivered with some style, gravitas and even vulnerability.

The album's quite good, very enjoyable

slunken 09-18-2020 10:34 PM

I'm really surprised at how well Shooter produced this record. I thought it was going to sound like stereotypical LA shit
