Like, Spotify in its current form, I don't believe it'll be there in five years. Soon, you'll only be able to access certain artists on certain streaming apps, etc.

Or so the voices in my head tell me.

SHUT UP MIKE, I'M THE ONE TALKING!

well maybe but streaming services are actually fantastic for artists because they literally get a cut of every single time someone clicks to play a song (as opposed to the old model of radio where they got a cut every time a DJ played their song regardless of whether there are 10 or 50,000 listeners). The listener is being charged directly so its actually an encouraging force and there would have to be some big motivation for artists and labels to then sell streaming rights exclusively to one service or another.

I've heard it's no bueno for artists

you basically re-establish the gate keepers that major labels were

and the royalties are skimpy

Mals Marola 02-02-2018 12:08 PM

the royalties are extremely skimpy
unless you're doing like a million streams a month you're not gonna see anything other than maybe the funds to buy a pack of gum - unless those streams are actually views on YouTube, which actually does pay out pretty decently

Yeah, streaming revenues are a fraud. Apparently some rap artist who had one of the top listened to songs on the service only ended up getting 10 000 dollars or something. I forget whom, but I've read similar stories over and over again regarding spotify and the other services.

Lol this reminds me of this one thread from a few years ago where you insulted the fuck out of a guy for not using streaming services
