The Stephen Colbert show is just terrible now

Man, it's a damn shame. He was pretty hilarious when he was on Comedy Central.

I expected that once he went to a major network that he would have to become more generic, but man... The charm is gone. Letterman was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

How long do you guys think before he gets canceled?

Shallowed 11-10-2017 11:09 AM

Did he say something about Donald Trump which made him take to Twitter to retort with something along the lines of it being a TERRIBLE show with TERRIBLE ratings!

?

Shallowed 11-10-2017 11:09 AM

I mean,

Shut the fuck up, fuzzy

fuzzyroes 11-10-2017 11:37 AM

I dunno, he's just not very funny, man. It was more hilarious when he pretended to be a huge Bush supporter. It was an original twist. Him just being his natural self just doesn't cut it. He's simply not charismatic enough to carry an hour long show.

FlamingGlobes 11-10-2017 09:24 PM

When he first came to The Late Show, it appeared he had stalled. Since the election, he has been on fire. His show is now filed under "Can't Miss" for me. I've adored the guy since Strangers With Candy and that affection is only deepening the further down the rabbit hole we go.

Sorry he said mean things about your big, orange Presidential avatar/idol.

Also, fuck the shut up, zuffy.

You guys should check out the Illiad.

qwerty sp 11-10-2017 10:11 PM

its actually quite a tough gig

I mean the average Leno or Letterman eps weren't amazing...

FlamingGlobes 11-10-2017 10:17 PM

Nothing beats golden era Conan

FoolofaTook 11-10-2017 10:46 PM

I dunno that chapter in which Haphaistos makes Achilles shield is pretty bodacious.

Shallowed 11-11-2017 01:34 AM

oh but of course

FoolofaTook 11-11-2017 02:11 AM

Haven't owned a tv in 12 years.

I read the Gita. The Baghavad Gita.

yo soy el mejor 11-11-2017 02:16 AM

Lots of people don't own a television and still watch shows. You talk about shows a lot.

Go call your mommy and daddy, they'll give you some money for a real tv

spidersoma 11-11-2017 02:17 AM

Jimmy Fallon ruined late night television for me. That, and not having cable.

FlamingGlobes 11-11-2017 02:31 AM

Hey, I'm all for Trump jokes if they're funny. Hell, I don't miss an episode of Real Time With Bill Maher and he's pretty much the biggest Trump hater there is but he's still a funny guy even if I don't agree with him. Colbert just comes off as kind of a smug yuppie now or something.

When you think of it, there's really no better time to go back to his old shtick than now. All of the Trump hate is just generic and across the board with these late-night hosts, but if he pretended to be a Trump supporter like he did with Bush he'd have a ton of golden comedic opportunity and it would be original to boot cause no one else is doing it.

For what it's worth, Fallon and Kimmel aren't much better and Conans really lost his luster. It's a pretty milquetoast era for latenight shows... But I guess network TV is lacking in importance anyways

ilikeplanets 11-11-2017 11:22 AM

I never liked Stephen Colbert. Not even in Strangers With Candy.

ilikeplanets 11-11-2017 11:23 AM

I do like John Oliver though, can't help myself

fuzzyroes 11-11-2017 11:41 AM

Haha yeah, I watch John Oliver sometimes. He's pretty good, I like him too. Can be sort of hit or miss, but he digs up a lot of good shit. Guy must have a top-notch staff.

ilikeplanets 11-11-2017 02:57 PM

I like self-deprecating humor mixed with calling out rich and/or powerful people's bullshit. In a British accent. The endings of his episodes are kinda weak though.

this is what I've heard too, but I couldn't tell through all the jokes which were racist or about harassing women

Yeah. He hit a few out of the park that went viral, so now he follows a formula that the end has to showcase something that's so sensational and ridiculous and most of the time it falls flat.

ilikeplanets 11-11-2017 03:16 PM

i like that he can't keep a straight face during the really hilarious clips. i like it when comedians laugh during their performance, it seems more genuine somehow. exception being bo burnham. i am captivated by his borderline sociopathic glare.

fuzzyroes 11-11-2017 03:23 PM

If you need a good hearty laugh and wanna watch some comedic gold you should definitely tee this up for play. It's one of his first ever specials I believe. It's from 1982

I swear to god I own this original release on VHS. I just watched it the other night, I couldn't stop bursting into laughter... Seriously, check it out!

fuzzyroes 11-11-2017 03:26 PM

I'm pretty sure he's high as hell on cocaine. If you look carefully you can see his jaw and teeth grinding away.

He's literally dripping with sweat in no time and the only thing he drinks on stage is wine.

Epic showmanship.
