Game of Thrones S7 thread

premiering tonight

writing is pretty crappy so far aside from the Citadel scenes which are great

TuralyonW3 07-16-2017 10:29 PM

I thought it was awesome.

The only thing I didn't remember is how Clegain killed that dad and daughter.

That was fun editing in the citadel scene (and cool to see that Jorah ended up there!)

And of course... the opening scene with Arya. pimp as fuck.

Also, the music was gorgeous when Daeneris was entering Dragonstone.

If you guys read The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany you might just learn to despise the ground upon which George R R Martin aka the Abomination Which Causeth Desolation.

funny, i made a mental note of feeling distinct relief when they finally cut it and just let the sound of the steps in the vacant space serve as the soundtrack.

also, leaving out every viewer who doesn't happen to remember some fucking gigantically negligible scene from like 5 years ago of the Hound leaving a farmer and his daughter to die, and then going like 5 minutes of screentime over it as if nobody skipped a beat - that's just the annoying side of GoT to me.

but yeah - all in all, surprisingly nice episode.
a lot of very nice subtle little touches, particularly in the acting department. i expected a trodding episode but it was pretty good

teh b0lly!!1 07-17-2017 12:16 PM

ho ho ho, look at me i'm tubby Sam Tarley!

oh jolly, would you look at that?
i'm just flippin' through a quaint ol' forgotten book of lore i too easily stole not a mere 5 minutes ago, and by golly, A BIG FUCKING MAP WITH THE SECRET TO BEATING THE ARMY OF THE UNDEAD is just smeared there all over an entire page for my convenience!

ho ho ho, somebody get me a hot dog! cheerio!

You watch this. Hour after hour.

Yet you have not read the Gods of Pegana, a slim tome, forsooth.

Why?

cork_soaker 07-17-2017 04:09 PM

game of thrones

buzzard 07-17-2017 08:48 PM

I could have done without all that Ed Sheeran.

Cut it out, Game of Thrones. You've had your fun.

Honestly, I much prefer this to the direct exposition they started to let slip into the previous season.

At least we were spared from typical devices such as the flashback and didn't have to sit through the Hound riding in, making comments like, "I seem to recall fucking over a farmer and his daughter in a place that looked a lot like this one. Nice top knot, btw."

LaBelle 07-18-2017 08:36 AM

I liked the episode overall. Better than last year's season premiere.
The scooby doo mask scene was funny and cool.

When I was in Ordos City I had a student who was very popular and outgoing. He always tried to engage me, talking about his favorite rock band namely Linkin Park. So I emailed him Heavy Friends. He sent a polite reply back. I smiled smugly, and waited.

A week later he shows up to class all flustered freaking out tells me he listened to the song never heard anything like it SO HEAVY what is the band where are they from etc etc

i imagine a similar scene would unfold if any one of you poor rr martin saps read a page oiut of Richard Adams' SHARDIK.

LaBelle 07-19-2017 08:59 AM

I just like the show, don't really care for the books or RR Martin.

buzzard 07-19-2017 07:59 PM

I read the first book and left it there. It wasn't exactly a smorgasbord of finely crafted sentences.

Martin's command of the language comes in on the Dan Brown to Joseph Conrad scale at about a Dean Koontz, sitting only a few places ahead of J. K. Rowling and a few below Stephen King. It's a bit of a Mario Puzo scenario in that the story has potential that the quality of the writing itself doesn't quite live up to, leaving it to the adaptation to deliver the goods.

teh b0lly!!1 07-19-2017 10:23 PM

i've never read any of the books, but i always thought the first few seasons were lovely, linguistically. it probably doesn't say much as it was mostly all rewritten and adapted to script, but you know.

actually that's part of what i feel changed noticeably after the show's departure from Martin's books.

LaBelle 07-19-2017 10:30 PM

I loved reading the harry potter books.

Also I was about 13 when I started.

^ it's true though

wHATcOLOR 07-24-2017 01:57 AM

Spoiler alert

Did yara die or what? I couldn't tell if that was her hanging or not

LaBelle 07-24-2017 05:58 AM

God, I hope not.

buzzard 07-24-2017 07:42 AM

I actually laughed during the sex scene. Probably at about the six minute mark.

Come on, guys. Let's not fast forward through the rest of the story to make time for unnecessary cheese that adds nothing to anything.

teh b0lly!!1 07-24-2017 10:40 AM

^ a man who speaks the truth.

what a bad episode. so tasteless. there were multiple points during this episode that i was like "man this is seriously fucking cheesy as a soap opera". so many eyeroll moments.

Cool As Ice Cream 07-24-2017 10:42 AM

it's a game

LaBelle 07-24-2017 10:48 AM

Sam and the grandmeister talking about the book's title made me go "YOURE GONNA NAME IT SONG OF ICE AND FIRE AREN'T YOU" at the screen

teh b0lly!!1 07-24-2017 10:50 AM

what i am a fan of, though, is Alfie Allen and his portrayal of Theon.

solid acting from him tonight. his right eye literally ticked as his entire being cracked once more, and he proved himself a weak person. he's such a complex, three dimensional character. he did some horrible shit, he makes bad choices whenever possible, but he is a reflection of what a fragile, sensitive person would have to live like in those times, with all the brutality going around like candy.

his character is one of my favorite on the show, and they hardly ever show him.
