Do you listen to studio tracks or live boots more?

Aside from the dreamlike perfection of SD, I'll always prefer live stuff. Hearing them speed up songs so much is amazing, the banter in between, the different solos and fills, the live energy...

Aside from SD, all their records sound either stale or shitty

T&T 12-31-2017 10:32 AM

80% albums
20% live

LaBelle 12-31-2017 10:35 AM

I listen to the records a ton more, especially because I prefer watching concerts on video than just listening to them.

And the records only sound shitty from Zeitgeist forward imo (machina 2 has a few weird sounding songs too)

when i was younger i always sought out the boots; however, now I listen to the studio recordings more. Maybe it has to do with finally getting all these old 90s albums on vinyl with the reissues.

I always did appreciate that the pumpkins live versions were often different than the studio or at least had a different vibe to them.

smashingjj 12-31-2017 11:50 AM

nah

Shadaloo 12-31-2017 12:25 PM

I only started seeking out recordings in the last few years. I've listened to the albums several thousand times more than I have or will anything live, and I tend not to bother unless the audio quality's good.

Big Truck05 12-31-2017 12:40 PM

95% live
5% albums

FoolofaTook 12-31-2017 01:53 PM

Neither. I listen exclusively to demos.

Jackboot 666 !!! Yeah!

ilikeplanets 12-31-2017 03:43 PM

like 95% studio albums but i know there is so much good live stuff i should probably check out

and yes, machina 2 has some terrible sounding tracks. they'll be fixed on the reissue, though

FoolofaTook 12-31-2017 03:58 PM

FoolofaTook 12-31-2017 05:22 PM

Do you listen to studio tracks or live poots more?

ilikeplanets 12-31-2017 07:06 PM

definitely live poots, i have a 4 month old

slunken 12-31-2017 08:50 PM

I was a live guy for several years (took the time to download all of the archive fm, pre-fm, and sbd shows) but have crawled back to albums on the stereo.

srt4b 12-31-2017 09:01 PM

90% live.
5% studio
5% mike drum soloz

life's_a_drag 12-31-2017 09:36 PM

75% Studio
25% Live
I listen to an acceptable (I guess) amount of live recordings, but Ive been needing to get into more shows and what not. Recently been getting a lot more off of archive.org so I'm hoping that'll help.

Mals Marola 12-31-2017 11:15 PM

i guess these days about 50/50, since i don't actively put on the albums anymore, and am often seeing live stuff from the "golden era" i'd never heard before

saying most of the studio stuff pre-zeitgeist sounds "stale & shitty" is pretty dumb tho

houseofglass11 01-01-2018 02:19 AM

The only thing stale and shitty around here are Tooks mom jokes.

FoolofaTook 01-01-2018 04:18 AM

Uh I switched to fathers like a month ago yo.

Get with the times bruh.

inkless 01-02-2018 04:16 PM

it depends on the songs

Porcelina live for the outro
1979 only acoustic live
bullet never after 97
oceania always album
cherub rock more album......

cork_soaker 01-02-2018 04:34 PM

hardly ever listen to anything in context these days. i tend to land on one specific song and listen to it (and little else) periodically over the course of several weeks. pumpkins examples from recent times include:

-ruby, eurockeennes 97
-in my body, album

cork_soaker 01-02-2018 04:37 PM

i like to be immersed for a good long while in whatever the particular aesthetic happens to be

cork_soaker 01-02-2018 04:45 PM

dunno if this counts, but i will say thefutureembrace was a recent exception to the "no context" thing, possibly because it has a more cohesive sonic quality overall

the songs are mostly lifeless, but, spurred by a thread here, i got really into listening to the color and texture of the album last month

cork_soaker 01-02-2018 04:51 PM

the aeroplane flies high studio version is another recent example. it was suddenly much more commanding, bloodthirsty, and seductive to me than it had ever been before. no idea why. but it was awesome.
