New single "Aeronaut" on BBC 6 now
Chorus: "Lovers won't you mourn with me".
Did you record it?
Horrid vocals, mostly piano, forgettable. Teargarden level stuff.
This makes widow wake my mind seem like a hit single.
Oh god he's actually going by William Patrick Corgan
I think it's really lovely. Instrumentation is great - piano, strings. Kinda feels like a good Zwan song
Vocals are a bit shitty and of course the 'lovers' |
He really needs to chill with the quick, shuddery vibrato or whatever that is.
Awful vocal performance.
Forgettable song. Uninspired. |
Aimless meandering, no structural dynamic, overuse of chord progressions, tired lyrical tropes. Glass/Zero is fucking dead and all we're left with WPC.

I was actually pretty excited about the new album but that feeling vanished after listening to Aeronaut. |
more i listen more i like
It sounded ok, a little better than TBK stuff.
But then he repeated the last line waaaaaaay too many times. Killed the song which was already pretty mediocre. |
I like it
Well, better than anything off MTAE. Pretty if a tad repetitive.
It sucks.
wow i thought that was pretty great, horrible vocals aside. completely agree about that shuddery quick vibratro thing, but i like the song a lot & the way it's written, i fucking wish he could sing it in a pre-2007 voice. psyched for the new record, glad it's coming out this year
This is hot garbage. He's at his worst trying to do a single hook, somehow made worse here by his limp crack at doing "Disarm" again. Bad even by his 2010s standard.

a few Dsus2 sprinkled about? a nice shiny Cadd9 to end the measure (and for good measure)? |
song is not terrible, except the vocals. better than anything on MTAE. it sounds like a demo.
most importantly it sounds like he gives a shit in this song, which is nice to hear |
Song is solid and for once hasn't been killed by over-production. I disagree about the vocals, though they are not his most impressive effort, the vocal performance has a lot more presence than anything off MTAE. I am really looking forward to this album, based on "Aeronaut" and the stated approach it should place somewhere in the top half of Corgan's discography.

Not feeling it. I think it's because the vocals, I just get no feeling from them. I think Billy is too focused on sounding "good" and "perfect" that he forgot that it needs to sound sincere and from the soul. I just don't hear that with this. You listen to older acoustic Billy only songs and you feel like he's leaving a piece of his soul on tape. Fragile and imperfect. It is those idiosyncrasies that made those songs what they are. It wasn't about sounding perfect and clean. I feel that sterile-ness sucks out a huge part of this track's heart and soul and honestly most of the later Billy material suffer from this. They end up sounding like Billy going through the motions.
^ this is exactly right.
Imagine how crappy Stumbleine would be if he recorded it now. And that's even with great lyrics |
Sadly, Rick Rubin is a shade of his former self and most likely just a yes man trying to record the perfect top 40 record. Honestly Billy needs someone like Flood in the studio again because he understands how not always sounding perfect can be a song's strength. He knows how certain layering makes a song more powerful and not every little element needs to crystal clear or perfectly delivered. It's the intention behind what you're laying down that comes across the most in a recording.

suck
I love how his vocals sounded in 2004...very heartfelt:
Absolutely stunning song. First time I have heard real emotion in his voice for a whole. You're all deaf or something. Best work I have heard from Billy for a while. Can't stop listening, hope the rest of the album is as brilliant as this.
