So what's the deal with the skirts?

Has Billy ever addressed this? Is this some sort of tongue-in-cheek humor? Is he completely serious? Is this some sort of homage to someone from the past?

fluxequalsrad 05-22-2008 12:11 AM

well during MCIS-era (i think) he mentioned something about all his songs being written from a female perspective and he can't imagine a man singing/covering his songs. Probably some bullshit about androgyny that b0llz thinks is cool but really isn't funny anymore when you pay a designer a fuckload to make the dresses.

Thaniel Buckner 05-22-2008 12:19 AM

what a fucking retarded thing to talk about.

hate the hater is my friend

T&T 05-22-2008 01:38 AM

the skirts are cute.
upskirts are even better (far and few)

brillo998 05-22-2008 01:48 AM

what a stupid question. hate the hater is a fuck.

The skirts just add more to the aesthetic appeal and glamore of the concert. It makes billy look much more provocative and important than if he had wore boring pants.

i remember in an interview he mentioned how his mom doesn't like it
and how his family memebers asked him if he was a fag because of it
this was after MCIS

edit:

My mother came to a Smashing Pumpkins gig once, and I was wearing a dress. She was very upset. She said, 'Everyone's gonna think you're a fag.' I said,'Well, they already think I'm an asshole.'

Androgeny is nothing knew. David Bowie pulled it off pretty well for a while. But Billy's take on androgeny is almost completely different to Bowie's concept....Yay for originality!

It all creates a great ambience for the show. :)

nah

Billy is one of the last few people who actually bother to express individuality in music. All live musicians today of the same genre seem to follow the same themes and elements in their live performances.
Indie Rockers dress Indie, death metal artists look heavy metal...Agh. BOOORING.

you guys better stop being dicks to hate the hater, or you'll get a knuckle sandwich!

i remember that interview too but always had the impression he was referring to a much earlier show; like when he had long hair and wore the flowery thing. just because he mentioned the incident post-MCIS doesn't mean it happened post-MCIS

oh ok i thought you were stating that as fact. in hindsight it would make sense to refer to the MTV awards. i thought perhaps it would be the first time he wore a dress. when was that?

Caine Walker 05-22-2008 05:41 PM

'96.

1997-11-03

but that was also a one-time thing, opening for Jane's Addiction unannounced.

Caine Walker 05-22-2008 05:44 PM

didn't he come out for a benefit wearing that red wig... ? why does that sound familiar?
