Definitive rip of Machina 2?
 

Just realizing now that I don't have ANY version of Machina 2 in my iTunes lossless library - so in the interest of having the best one, where did we all land on that debate?

Remember back in the day thinking that the Q101 rip was the bees' knees. But that was before those Virgin Promo CDs came out... and the slow rip or whatever that one was...

So here we are - 19 years later - did a clear cut winner ever get chosen?

I believe they're on all archive.org for download if you want to compare, just open two tabs and A/B back and forth with the player. Really it's about 6 of one and a half a dozen of the other. The recording and mixing quality didn't seem to be that great to begin with and a vinyl rip only muddles that further.

riped a little faster than it was supposed to be, it compliments the album with an aggressive edge with the band sounding faster and billy more nasal (due to being pitched up a bit).

The Virgin transfer has the best HiFi-quality, followed by the Q101.
For comparisons you have to calibrate the levels.
The Virgin recording is quieter than the other ones.

Eric Agnew was too greedy or dumb to at least rent a solid HiFi turntable to share the recordings in a dignified way.
Even made no attempt for doing a better transfer after it got well documented for the mankind on Wikipedia.
Or he couldn't do it anymore, for selling his vinyl secretly to some other F**kers?

And he's living now in Japan, home of the vinyl-laser table...
