Torrent/FLAC easy to understand guide
With the new tour and open-taping policy, I figure we'll be seeing alot more torrents, and more people will want them.
Here is an awesome Bittorrent FAQ: http://dessent.net/btfaq/ FLAC files: All around awesome program: http://thor.prohosting.com/roh0205/ You can play them with: Foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.org, my choice) Winamp (www.winamp.com, with plugin) iTunes (with this mod: http://playlistmag.com/news/2006/07/11/ogg/index.php) You can convert with: Foobar2000 (have the LAME mp3 codec installed for best results, if making mp3) Flac frontend (flac.sf.net) MAC USERS: use this: http://sbooth.org/Max/ remember, most tapers don't want you to make mp3s of their shows, except for personal use (your ipod, etc). You should never make mp3 files of a show and put them online unless the taper gives you explicit permission to do so. |
kick ASS this helps a ton

The one stop program: http://thor.prohosting.com/roh0205/ It is called Trader's Little Helper and it is absolutely fantastic.

I also reccomend using uTorrent. |
it's too long, i know... and all that.
but imagine this song as a single... |
What about .shn files then? And... is the community now leaning towards .flacs as opposed to .shns?

no it doesnt work for mac :(
|
XACT is all you need to decode Flac/SHN on Mac.
As for playing them, I think VLC Media Player does that and everything else under the sun. |

yea.. vlc is a great player.. plays EVERYTHING |
What plug in do I need to play this on winamp?
|
the flac plugin
|
Ok I got the flac plug in.
how do I play it? There is a folder, with a bunch of files..? |
you need to put it into the plugins folder and then restart winamp. I havent used winamp in a long time, but it will have a bunch of .dll files like "lame_in.dll" and "lame_out.dll"
|
Yeah I got that now. I can listen to it :)
Now I got to burn it to mp3..so I can put it on a cd so I can listen while I drive. |

Here's a site that pretty much sums up why I seeded the file the way I did, named the files the way I did, etc.

BUt the wav is much bigger, it wont fit on 3 cd-r's will it? Also How do I convert? I have the Flac frontend thing all cue'ed up |
Quote:
to convert, load the files into frontend, choose an output directory, and hit "decode". MAKE SURE THAT "DELETE INPUT FILES" IS NOT CHECKED. |
Quote:
I already made sure of that. Don't want to delete those bad boys ;) It doesnt give me a choice what to decode into..unless it was a wav file before hand. |
it should automatically decode to wav
|
Nice thanks!
What is the fading thing about? Should I keep those on my cds? |
they're optional, its up to you whether you like the cds to have fades at the beginning and end or not
|
