Doing a Pumpkins tribute show in July, peep the set list

I'm doing a Smashing Pumpkins tribute show in July and here's the set list I've put together for it. This is the running order which I've tried to take guitar tuning (album tunings) and vibe into account. Thought i'd put it out to you smarmy bastards to critique and agonise over the songs we're doing. Wondering how the actual reunion tour set list will look compared to what we're going to attempt...

Set 1
I Am One
Today
Rhinoceros
Siva
Drown
Bodies
Jellybelly
Here Is No Why
Thru The Eyes Of Ruby
Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Fuck You (An Ode To No One) (Final Show Version)
Stand Inside Your Love
Geek USA
XYU

Set 2
The Everlasting Gaze
Ava Adore
Glass' Theme
Cash Car Star
Tristessa
Muzzle
The End Is The Beginning Is The End ('97 Live Version)
Zero
1979
Tonight, Tonight
Disarm (Live Vieuphoria version)
Cherub Rock
Silverfuck

Waddya think? PS I'm the drummer in the band and have done a Siamese Dream tribute show before, you can check that out here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...E-jcL-XqvJFj9Q

Live Drum cam of Silverfuck: https://youtu.be/XxhO_ovwDcE
Live Drum cam of Geek USA: https://youtu.be/n4LMiZb-0Wo

I'm pretty excited to perform this live, first rehearsal is next week.

Would it be possible to get Astral Planes in there?

I'd rather that vs Widow or Owata, christ on a bike.

redbreegull 06-20-2018 09:05 PM

pretty sure we made fun of this dude last time and then listened to his band and they actually fucking slayed

russticles 06-20-2018 09:07 PM

ty

Although the band I'm using for this is a whole new line-up so hopefully the new 4 piece slays just as hard, the material's a lot harder to play, I got my work cut out that's for sure.

BurtSampson 06-20-2018 09:08 PM

Jesus this is longer than the final Metro show

Corgan's Bluff 06-20-2018 09:31 PM

Changed into an instrumental track!

The guitar effects are still amazing...

Seems like it’s heavy on the heavy, i take it your other members are not as excited for the dreamy side of the catalog

russticles 06-20-2018 09:50 PM

Nah we like all pumpkins but we're also trying to be mindful over the type of audience this might attract and also kind of trying to avoid too many lulls in the set. There are more hits than I'd like to be playing (tbh I could do without Today/Disarm/1979) and slot in something like Soma, In The Arms Of Sleep, Porcelina, Marquis In Spades but... yanno. Gotta appeal to the lowest common denominator. Glass/Cash/Jellybelly will probably get a few confused looks but hoping there'll be enough hardcores that'll appreciate it. Depending how it goes we'll probably play again later in the year or next, maybe swap a few hits for deep cuts or keep piling them on... we'll see!

We're all busy doing other bands so this isn't a full time commitment thing, just doing it for fun and for the challenge

run2pee 06-20-2018 10:10 PM

Yeah, I get it, ppl are dummies

Just when i saw something like cash car I thought huh they don’t mind a rarity so why not friekin Galapagos, or something pretty like that here and there, so i don’t get metallica neck from headbangin to your youtube when you pls share that sht with us

Butt Pope 06-20-2018 10:13 PM

Three guitarists!

:rockon::rockon::rockon:

I think you should do a live version of Ruby. That outro fucking slays. Super fun part to play

russticles 06-20-2018 11:19 PM

Oh fuck, yes sorry. We're definitely doing live ruby, with that extended outro. 100% love the end of 96 era as well as 97 era ruby outros

TuralyonW3 06-20-2018 11:38 PM

I think it's a cool endeavor

Gooch 06-21-2018 12:06 AM

Will you be wearing a dress? Or clothing that’s too tight that your gut and ass crack hang out?

russticles 06-21-2018 12:25 AM

I'll be Jimmy so no. Just my natural 'ageless' self.

Gooch 06-21-2018 12:37 AM

Look no one gives a shit about this fucking tribute show. You should just go ride around in a white van for the rest of your life.

Gooch 06-21-2018 12:41 AM

Actually you’re pretty good, your drumming reminds me of that drummer from Bearcubbin

russticles 06-21-2018 12:55 AM

Who, Matt Walker?

I don't have time to listen to the full show right now, but I watched this one and can confirm slayage

FoolofaTook 06-21-2018 11:01 AM

russticles: russian testicles or rusty testicles?

Gooch 06-22-2018 12:42 AM

Click on the video links in the original post, doooooood

I'm rockin' Jimmy's configuration (drum wise - all same sizes and all Yamaha!) with Sabian cymbals. I'll post some pics as the date gets closer when I can be bothered setting myself up as him again

themadcaplaughs 06-22-2018 09:37 AM

You should perform one of the absolute rock bottom Smashing Pumpkins songs - "Widow Wake My Mind," "Astral Planes," or "Quasar" - and just fucking rock it as hard as possible. I have no doubt you could easily exceed any performances of those songs from the actual band. Then we can show it to Billy and see if he flips.

russticles 06-22-2018 09:58 AM

Jimmy's seen my footage and approves

Still haven't gotten through to old bill yet

We're not talking about Jimmy approving. You would need the seal of approval from Mike Byrne regarding those songs!

In all seriousness, that's awesome that Chamberlin gave you a shout out.

SHAZAAM!!!

russticles 07-08-2018 07:55 PM

Alright! Did the gig on July 5, here's our rendition of "Fuck You" as per the final show at the Metro, same arrangement, probably the same tempo, maybe not as fast but it was pretty fuckin' fast!

Drum-cam footage for now, got 24 songs to go through.

Here's full band footage of Jellybelly:
