Default Tom Waits?

Rain Dogs is a great album - I'm fascinated by Waits' gruff delivery and penchant for street urchin arrangements. "Tango Till They're Sore" is becoming one of my favorite songs.

I've heard Swordfishtrombones as well, but it seems like almost every song on it has a better analogue on Rain Dogs.

Who else likes Tom? And where should I go from here?

ps I have a hell of a man crush on mr Waits, he's always mystifying in interviews:

Mule Variations is the only other newer Tom Waits album I have besides Rain Dogs and I like that just as much. Latter day Tom Waits was something I really had to get used to though; his earlier stuff is well worth checking out as well. Closing Time and The Heart of Saturday Night are both really good.

those and there are a few choice songs on Small Change and Blue Valentine.

Alice is probably my favorite album and one of the few i actually own. I haven't really gotten into his recent stuff, but this album is definitely awesome.

I own Mule Variations and Blood Money and both are pretty solid albums. I've heard Alice and Bone Machine as well, and would probably buy them both if I could find a store that carried either.

And yeah, apart from being a truly unique singer/songwriter, Tom Waits has to be one of the most "interesting" musicians in history.

No word of a lie. It completely kicks my ass that he's still at this stage of his career releasing amazing albums. He is an actual living legend.

Tom Waits is one of those rare artists that gets better with age. Bone Machine is probably my favorite of his but they're all great albums. That Coffee and Cigarettes clip is great btw.
