Did anyone actually like the first one? Pretty bad even for a super hero movie.

Not going to dispute the Don Cheadle comment, but the 2nd movie in superhero franchises are usually the best one because the goddamn origin is out of the way. Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, Batman Returns, Superman 2. Hell, action movie sequels in general do really well. Wrath of Kahn, Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, The Two Towers

And I don't think Iron Man is really a planned trilogy. Iron Man 3 is basically the Avengers.

I thought it was really entertaining and Downey was perfect for the role, but the movie didn't think outside of it's superhero box unlike The Dark Knight. Within the confines of the set superhero origin movie box, it was pretty goddamn good.

Although I think the biggest surprise of Iron Man (aside from the last 10 seconds at the press conference) is that Paltrow can actually look pretty darn cute still. But next to Scarlett Johanson in this one, she may kind of look like a troll. Love the mischievous grin on the "go get it, boss!" in this trailer. Rourke looks like they just grabbed him off a weekend bender and slapped a flashlight on him (and, uh, Russian Accent?). Sam Rockwell is going to kick ass, and the shot of Sam Jackson Nick Fury should confuse the hell out of people who didn't stick through the credits of Iron Man.

i watched the first one well after its release and didn't have any expectation and as such I thought it was thoroughly enjoyable, but then I usually like a movie that features Jeff Bridges, whom I didn't know was in the movie before I watched it .

It's always interesting to see what Hollywood is allowed to show as well, in terms of toying around with technology and what the military has always allowed the movies to reveal and/or deceive.

I disagree The Dark Knight was better than Batman Begins. nope. Ledger saves the Dark Knight, but overall it's not as good as the first one.

and you left out The Twin Towers....but, I'm still mulling over your superhero distinction, it's a fair point.

I saw Downey Jr. say it was going to be a Trilogy. I wanna say I saw that somewhere in the Tropic Thunder DVD, but I remember him saying it was a planned Trilogy.

Dude, Two Towers is in my post. And I just think Dark Knight is more in-depth and has a much more emotionally tragic story to it. Also, origin movies just kinda bug me (aside from the first 40 minutes of Spider-Man, but Spidey has the best origin in comics. Having said that, Spidey 2 is better). Dark Knight was Batman from the get-go, more complex plot and acting and had way better villians.

Seriously how in the Hell is someone using the term "Hollywood films" "all Hollywood bullshit!" in a derogatory way actually a valid criticism.

nah not even what i was saying

just all these films. so fucking predictable and full of stupid dialogue and mind-numbing dumbed down plots ... they just don't bring anything new or interesting to the table. same old boring, dumb formula for each one.

not a super hero film but have you ever seen The Host? korean creature feature and it's amazing because it's funny, and clever and not at all formulaic. the heroes are inept and useless, they don't rescue the girl, the city gets gassed despite everyones efforts, there is barely any redemption and the whole time they take the piss out of america and big budget hollywood films in a completely credulous way.

now there's a big budget cgi action blockbuster whatever film that i enjoyed because it was clever.

a lot of 'art films' or whatever are boring as all sin too but i'm not talking about them. i'm talking about these shitty superhero movies. big budgets, no brains, awful films.

well, i didn't like the discontinuity with what's her face Gyllenhall replacing Mrs. Tom Cruise, which is really why I brought up Cheadle. He's replacing someone in this film but I don't think it'll matter too much here. I doubt they would of blew up Holmes the way they did Gyllenhall. I did think the first movie didn't go deep enough into the Scarecrow, which come to think of it, I didn't get enough of Ledger either in DK.

anyway Cheadle. I heard about the contract dispute with the other guy...what an idiot.

ya mercurial but for mindless fun, Robert Downey Jr. is about as good as it gets. Not every movie has to be Infernal Affairs.

I defer to Ben Stein on that subject:

"Yes, the Jews run Hollywood. So what?"

see i'd be into the whole mindless fun aspect but you dudes are getting way in depth and serious about your discussions about iron man and super hero trilogy theories and such so i reckon you're in this for way more than just mindless fun guys.

According to European traditions the wood of the holly tree supposedly repelled evil and was the chosen substance for wizard's wands. They would use the wand to create their mystery and magic. This is in essence why Hollywood was created; to use the magic of film and all the mis-direction to influence, shape and to a certain extent control the masses.

So I'm always interested in what Hollywood is doing to the extent the elites are invariably revealing something or some things about the world and even what their plans are.

Thirst is pretty good. A rather unique vampire movie. And Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is my favorite Park movie. It has some unforgettable shots.

Have you seen Joint Security Area? It was his first major success and Song Kang Ho is in it too.

I give it two decades before these manned fighting robots are revealed. Though the energy supply is the critical element...ya know there's a general theory that hidden technologies our government is in control of is some 30 to 50 years ahead of our times. The mechanics seem simple enough for these times to actually build a contraption like the Tony Stark machine, it's the energy supply that's the real science fiction here.

These are big enough movies on the mass scale to keep an open mind on what's being revealed/suppressed in this Iron Man trilogy. It'll be fun to watch.

Do you have any examples of this? If I understand you in this thread you're saying the American military inserts experimental technology concepts into films to...what, accustom people to the idea of it, before revealing the technology is real?
