Photography Thread

I went out to the edge of the Sahara. Took a 13 hour bus trip to get there, part of which went through the Tichka ("difficult") Pass-- a high, winding, sometimes terrifying road through the mountains. Eventually it flattens out somewhat into a wide, rocky and plateaued expanse. Further on come sand dunes and palmeries. I didn't actually go out into the desert, as I had some work to do in the town where the road literally ends, but it feels like you are at the edge of the world out there. The Sahara is so huge; I can't imagine what it really must be like.

as of two minutes ago, i guess i can say that i am a 'professional' photographer. i just got hired by my town as their go-to guy for who-knows-what. i'm sure this will be a great opportunity, although i wouldn't doubt that it will turn me off photography as a hobby completely.

how many hours a week and junk? how did they hear about you? i thought you just took up photography recently

i really have no idea how many hours a week this will end up being. i might have more information after a follow-up meeting next week. i guess they just stumbled across some stuff i had done online, or something. or it just could have been word of mouth - its a pretty small town. i've only been pursuing it as a hobby for less than a year.

i wish there was someone standing on the rocks to show some sense of scale because these waves were enormous and quite loud.









the sun only lines up with this arch in late nov/early dec so i was pretty lucky to catch this. the late afternoon started out with photographers dispersed along the beach according to lens size, but as the sun began to set everyone inched closer to the arch until finally the sun peaked through and we are all bunched up together, me and about 20 other photographers, jousting for this shot. i think it came out alright though.

some of you are obviously talented or have a decent eye anyway.
But some of you sneak by with expensive equipment.
Some of you... I dont know.

And why is cork soaker posting most of his stuff in here instead of the pic post thread? I thought there had some to be some artistic element involved for it to be considered photography.
Or at least mostly in focus, if thats your intention anyway.

he's my nephew, and i got my camera when he was just a few months old so i kind of used him as a guinea pig to figure out how to use it. also my mom and sister really appreciate the pics. he's the only baby i've ever taken pictures of, i swear.
