Angry FUCK MY BANK! I'm ditching them. How's your bank?

I have MB only because that's where my boss banks and my checks clear instantly (plus I know all the people that work there really well). But now they're fucking around with all these new policies and crap, my boss is even about ready to get rid of them.

But aside from that - I just lost my ATM card (rather, someone took it after I forgot it at Arby's) and I called them and had them cancel the card and send me a new one, they said it would take up to 2 weeks. Well it's been two weeks so I just called the woman I deal with at the bank and she said no one ordered me a card!!!

I'm one of those freaks that don't carry any cash, so I use my card for everything. I've been so screwed up not having it on me and I even had to write a check at the grocery store last night for $5.

So now it's going to take another 2 weeks and we're going on vacation. So I think I'm just finally going to say screw this stupid bank and go with something else. I might as well cuz it's going to take me just as long to get a new card from somewhere else!

I'm thinking Chase cuz that's what Mark has and he's always all "My bank is better than yours" so we'll see. Anyone else got a good bank suggestion?

My bank is ok. I like their internet banking services and the interface is decent.

We use a credit union for checking and HSBC Direct for online banking and savings accounts. We have had nothing but good experiences with both, although the credit union part won't assist you much. :/

i still have my bank in michigan because it's easier to pay my credit card through them online. there are all kinds of full service atms around, and my checks clear instantly. there is no real reason for me to switch banks.

I have USBank. Anytime I've been in a crisis situation they've been great. When I got robbed in Costa Rica they were super helpful (or probably just doing their job and it felt like them being super helpful 'cause I was all upset and crying) and when I got robbed in my own home while I was sleeping they actually called me minutes after I walked downstairs and saw our front door hanging open, so they could tell me about "suspicious transactions" that were taking place with my card.

Bank of America. Besides one awful snafu that they keep trying to blame me for (they withdrew money from my account from a check written on another account with a guy that has the same name as mine), they're pretty good.

Oh, and can't you get one of those prepaid Visa/Mastercard debit cards for your vacation? That'll be alot better than hauling cash around.

I have accounts with bank of america and a local credit union... I have no complaints with Bank of America. Last time I checked, they had the most atms in the state and I use their "keep the change" program.

Yeah see I heard a few commercials about the keep the change thing and that sounds like something I'd like to do - but do you have to keep a certain balance in your account or pay fees or anything?

Thanks for the help guys, I'm gonna probably see about checking out Chase and Bank of America.

That's really cool though, Kimmy, about them calling you right away - that shit is scary and I was lucky enough to catch when I had someone using my info and even then the bank was a pain in the ass. Someone apparently stole my account info somehow and charged some Verizon thing on there that I knew wasn't mine...right away I contacted the bank and filled out paperwork and got a new account - but they had to keep my old one open for a day or so to let the other stuff I charged clear. Meanwhile they let another charge for the same amount to the same Verizon go through! So I ended up having to file 2 claims. Pain. In. The. Ass!

I'm with a local credit union, and I kind of hate to move because they won't be in our new area. I have also had 2 bank of america accounts - their fees are HORRIBLE. However, Zach's lost his card 3 or 4 times and they've always gotten him fixed up right away with a new card. I've never lost a card so that isn't reason enough with me to stay with them.
I just set up a wamu account a couple of months ago that I'll be using when I move, I just started using it and all seems good. When they say free checking, they totally mean it which is awesome when you compare it to places like Bank of America. That's all the experience I have with them though.

I'm pretty sure all the major banks give you free Checking if you use direct deposit. You need to keep a balance of at least $300 in your Savings if you want your Savings account free, as well (otherwise they charge you $3 a month). In reality, I keep the majority of my savings elsewhere -- major banks give pretty shitty interest on your savings.

Yeah I might. Or I might just give all my cash to Mark to deposit into his account and we'll just use his card. I mean, it's not a horrible inconvenience but it pisses me off.

It especially pisses me off that this all happened because I went to this jacked up Arby's by my house that has the drive-thru on the wrong side of the building (think: if you pulled up to where the window should be, you'd be paying out of your passenger side window) so they have this contraption like you see at the bank where you pull in, there's a little window and you put your cash or card in this little paper cup and this little cart pulls it up and over your car and into the window to your right. They put the foot in the cart and it pulls it back over and to your driver's side window.

Well with all this going on, ordering for 15 other people and trying to get everything right - I ended up leaving the damn card in the cup and driving off without it. I almost got home before I realized what I did, I figured I might as well eat my food while it's hot and go back afterward - so I called before I went back and the stupid 16 year old bitch working there was all "There ain't no card here" I asked if she could look in the cup she's like "There ain't no card here" and hung up.

I'm always so good with not losing shit or leaving shit places but of course the one time I do it's gotta be this whole ordeal.

i cant even imagine any kind of service you would need from a bank that would cause you to change. is this in revenge for making you wait for your atm card or do you plan on losing it repeatedly?

Problem is, my boss doesn't do direct deposit. I know Mark has a free account and he doesn't have direct deposit either - but I just looked on Chase.com and they say you have to have it otherwise it's $6 a month.

I have a free account and don't do DD either. I better be able to find something. =\

I just checked bofa online and in fact they do offer a "special online only offer" of a free checking account with no requirement of DD nor minimum balance. *edit* At least in California...

If I wasn't stuck to my old ways and was looking for a new bank, I would strongly consider Washington Mutual. I think I read somewheres that they give you free checks for life.

Well first of all they just switched up all their policies so all their fees and crap have changed, went from Visa to Mastercard, and now they're putting holds on checks that they never did before - 2-5 business days and I don't get any of it available until it all clears. In fact that one really screws up our office business because we have commission checks we have to deposit and turn around and give the agent their check right away but we can't do that anymore because they have these holds...we actually got them to let us call whenever we have a Title company check to take the hold off - but we had to argue with them forever about that too!

Aside from that the people there are just idiots. The manager is the woman I always deal with but the tellers are always like "Durr what does this mean?"...one time someone took a check down without a signature from our office by accident and they deposited it. WTF? Then yesterday I went down and this girl was trying to tell me I did my deposit wrong because the amounts didn't match. I was like "YOU CASH THE CHECK FIRST. THEN GIVE ME $25 AND DEPOSIT THE REST OF IT INTO THE ACCOUNT WITH THE DEPOSIT SLIP...HENCE WHY IT'S UNDER "CASH" And this is all after 20 minutes of me sitting at the window waiting, wondering why she was just staring blankly at the deposit.

I'm just sick of it, like I said they're also our office bank too so not only do I have to deal with my account getting fucked up but I have to deal with our 3 office accounts getting fucked up - which they do ALL THE TIME. They just started moving money around our accounts, and you can't do that with an Escrow account - that's illegal. They're a bank, they know better - not to mention they never got any consent to do so.

Then again, free checks for life doesn't appeal to me that much anymore since I switched to paying 99% of all my bills online.

i use ING for all of my banking except regular depositing. i keep a commerce bank account open for that. it's a real pain in the butt to deposit, but the interest rates are great (4.5%/savings, 3.5%/ checking), plus they give you $1000 credit limit, so you never have overdraws.

you can mail checks out from their website. and they have free ATMs all over the place. where i live, we also have wawa convenience stores which also are surcharge free (so ATMs are plentiful).
