i meant to ask this yesterday.

i was driving to work, in the lane second from the right, when a large van nearly smashed right into my car, he was moving left into my lane. we were moving at about 50 mph, it was a pretty violent move and scared the f out of me, i could have been killed or mortally wounded. i slammed on my breaks to avoid being hit, and i gave the guy the finger.

well he immediately errupted, rolling down his window, turning back to look at me and screaming! then he continued with the window down, though now facing forward, looking at me through his side view mirror, SCREAMING and waving his arms wildly.

he slowed way down, to about 20 mph and was serving. then he SLAMMED on his breaks a few times, nearly causing me to crash read end him. the person in the car with me was kind of scared at that point. i was more of the 'what's up with this weirdo?' mindset.

anyhow, after well over a mile of this, my exit came up. the guy was STILL screaming, waving his arms, and going real slow. i gave him the finger again since he swerved in my direction as i was exiting, and he honked the horn again and i stopped looking at that point.

anyhow, my thoughts are these: almost every time i've accidentally cut someone off, they gave me the finger. and i felt it was deserved. at most, i usually waved benignly trying to indicate that it was my mistake, and mouthed the word "sorry!"

i figure if you fuck up, someone can give you the finger, its fair play.

but this dude clearly went ballistic. i'd have a hard time reacting quite as strongly as he did if someone was trying to rape me, nevermind if they just gave me the finger. on top of that, he's the one who nearly killed me, so i think if anyone has the right to be irate, it's me.

he seemed to be thinking, "I NEARLY KILLED YOU, GUY, AND NOW I'M FURIOUS AT YOU FOR THAT!!! HOW DARE YOU GIVE ME THE FINGER, I NEARLY KILLED YOU, WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE FINGER TO ME!!! NONE!! YOU HAVE INSULTED ME BEYOND COMPREHENSION, I WILL NOW CONTINUE TRYING TO KILL YOU!!"

Same thing happened to be the other day, the guy was tailing me (i was going over the speed limit), trying to get around, weaved in and out and finally got around me, and while zooming past i flipped him off. he slammed on his breaks suddenly (i guess he wasn't in THAT big of a hurry) and started yelling and shit.

i think if you find the middle finger offensive, especially if it's well-deserved, you're a fucktard. and in general, i don't find it offensive at all. it's lost its umph.

I feel the same way you do. The finger is a means of communication through vehicles - just the same as waving to someone when they let you through. Flip someone off if they do something stupid. People who flip out about it like that are going to flip out about anything. I've had some guy do that whole insanity thing when I simply honked at him for cutting me off. He started cussing his head off and swerving real close to my car like he was trying to hit me, he even spit on my car...all the meanwhile I was making a pouty face and wiping my eye like I was crying - which pissed him off even more. The best part? He had 3 kids (about 6-8 yrs old) in the back seat.

i love giving kids on a school bus the finger- cause they always do it out the back window at you. You flip them off too and they go crazy. Last time i did it with both hands and they started pounding on the bus windows. if i'm in a car and the driver gives the finger to someone in another car, i'm always afraid the other person will come out of the car and start yelling/threatening violence.

i generally avoid honking for the following reason: in my previous car, the one time i deliberately honked the horn to try and alert someone they had messed up, i crashed into them not more than 30 seconds later! boy, was my face red.

this car i'm in is new. recently, someone cut me off and i tried to honk the horn, and being unfamiliar with the controls, all i did was raise the internal temperate of the car by 1 degree. i raise that one degree quite emphatically, but it didn't have the real effect i was going for

i do hate tailgating idiots and though and i think i posted this before but whenever some idiot starts tailgating me and then swerves to the passing line to pass me up and cut me off, i accelerate so that he never gets in front of me. then, when he comes up behind a slow car on his lane, i slow down so that i'm about equal with the slow car, this way he's trapped with no lane to pass.

I've gotten into a lot of driving confrontations with people, but even if they've gotten out of their vehicle they've never actually approached me. But one time my Mom was driving me to school and some dick almost hit us so my Mom honked and flipped him off, he stopped and got out of his car like he was gonna come and be all intimidating to my Mom...she got out of the car and started cussing him out and she had a few inches on him, especially with her heels. She's an intimitading woman...he just got back in his car and sped away. Made me laugh.

That's always a good move. There's at least one person who tries to do this on the way home because the street I take from work to home is just 2 lanes, 35mph but people try to go 70.

One time some stupid 16 year old girls that must've just got their license and were driving around mommy's sedan got into that whole thing. They ended up finally getting around me and then slowed down and the one girl turned around and was making faces at me, flipping me off, laughing. I went around them and got in front of them, and they're still laughing and pointing - the driver was eating something so she was barely holding onto the wheel. I slammed on my brakes, hard. She slammed into the back of my truck and then I waved goodbye and drove off. It was really mean, I know, but you don't fuck around like that and I think she needed to learn the hard way Watching her face going from to was something I'll cherish forever. I had a little white paint scuffs on the back of my bumper but that's it - you don't play games with pick up trucks if you're in a sedan.

I'm really mean sometimes.

If someone cuts me off or nearly kills me, I give the finger and/or honk. I usually do both to make sure they see me flipping them off. I've even stuck my hand out the window to give the finger to ensure that those fuckers know that it's directed at them. Haha. I miss my sunroof

I hate it when someone cuts ME off, slams on their brakes, and then gives me the finger. Some asshole did that last week. I wanted to chunk my bottle of water out the window at him when he cut across to the left turn lane, cutting off 2 other lanes/cars. Asshole!

Anyway. In short: I give the finger frequently while driving but I get annoyed when I am given the finger and it's unjustified.

Yeah it was a tricky move that I don't ever intend on recreating, but it was just one of those spur of the moment things that just came to me you know? It definitely made my day.

Another great thing about my truck and assholes who like to fuck with people is the fact that it's manual trans. I can really race a lot of people if I wanted to, simply because I have a clutch and they don't. People see a chick driving a pick up truck and generally try to take advantage of me - some woman the other day on the way to work stopped about 5 car lengths from the car in front of her at a light because she had to stop to do her makeup or something. So I got pissed and went around her and pulled into the space she left in front of her. That pissed her off so she tried to go around me when the light changed and I was able to block her out so that pissed her off even more.

The rest of the way down the street to work (about 15 mins) she's bobbing in and out of traffic, trying to catch up to me. I wasn't even racing or doing any special driving, but we had a bunch of traffic between us. I could see the determination in her face as she switched lanes, calculating the fastest route to get in front of me or something. So at one of the lights we both stopped next to each other in each lane, right at the line. I pretended like I wasn't going to go for it but then I switched to second and gunned it - she tried with all her might to get around me but couldn't (I was in the left lane, her in the right) and as we come to the next red light she gets pissed, slams on her brakes and has to go all the way over to the left turn lane. She didn't even have to be in that lane, she just wanted to be so she could get in front of me and probably slam on her brakes and fuck with me...before turning left off of the street we were on. I swear...people are SO fucking stupid sometimes. So as she comes up my left side in the turn lane she tries to mean mug me - I stuck my tongue out at her, the light changed, and that was that. I'm sure she redlined it too (just before slamming on her brakes to get over behind me) and probably risked fucking up her car. What for? What point were you proving you dumb cunt?

this happened to me today.

I was driving on the middle lane (120 km/hr) & switched to the left lane to pass the car in front of me. The moment I clicked on my left indicator & started changing lanes I see in my sideview mirror the guy behind me in the left lane suddenly accelerate (i'm talking 6 - 7 car lengths behind me) to approx. 150 km/hr.
So I accelerated to his speed just to make sure the dipwad didn't rear end me then I reduced my speed to force him to slow down (Ya silly I know). Once he slowed down & gave me some space I switched back to the middle lane to let him pass (at which time we gave each other the 'evil eye' while passing & I threw in the middle finger).

After he passes me dipwad decides to drive 'normally' & I end up passing him moments later still giving him the dirty look which he now completes ignores.

back to the original post: If I do make a mistake & the driver decides to relieve some frustration by giving me the look or a finger I take it in stride & like you give the shrug / meek hand raise 'sorry' sign but yeah I see driver's like the one you described who cut-off cars & then get pissed off when they get honked at or whatever.

My friend does the Mayfuck close-off technique. That really seems to bring out the road rage in some people but it's kinda funny seeing them speeding up / braking & trying to find an opening like they were playing FROGGER with their car/life.

I've been involved in one accident my whole driving experience (someone changed lane without checking blindspot & boom..not my fault as confirmed by coppers) and the person had the nerve to say my paint was on their car so it must have been my fault......

Wow, so the insurance companies weren't involved? I got into an accident once...somewhat similar - some woman in a Bronco was trying to cross traffic and make a left turn. She's coming from a side street to the left of me and wants to be in the direction I'm going. So she has to cross the other side of traffic, which is at a halt, so she sneaks through that side and didn't see me in my little Geo Metro and just kept going - and pretty much tbones my car. The insurance companies had to battle and came to the conclusion that it was 60% her fault, 40% mine (how I don't know) and she ended up having to only pay 60% of the damages.

I was headed to work on a 55 mph 2 lane hwy and it was kinda snowy (on the ground, not the air) and this dude was driving an old bronco or blazer or something. Windows all fogged up. Going super slow. I know it was snowy, but this was unnecessarily slow and annoying. So I am waiting to pass him and maybe got a little too close, but not that close. He starts slowing way down and then slamming on his breaks and acting like a freak. So I pass him after all his ass-ness and give him the both hands up in the air "WTF" signal and then flip him off and drive at a normal speed.
I get to work and as I'm getting out of the car he pulls into the lot and confronts me. "what was that you did with your hand!?"
"I gave you like 2 car lengths, man"
"Yeah right. You're an asshole. if you're in such a hurry leave earlier! I got your license plate and I'm gonna call the cops."

i flicked a guy off the other day. i was in a regular lane and he was in a turning lane to the left, very slightly ahead of me, and went straight through the intersection. i don't think he saw me give him the finger which is good because i don't handle confrontation very well, i was just acting on instinct.

I had this one incident where I was getting onto the motorway, which means speeding up to 50-60mph and joining it. Some slip roads become the outside lane, but many of them (including this one) just narrow and disappear, so you have to merge before it runs out. Most cars either get out of that lane to let joining cars get on there safely, or they'll slow down to give you space if they see you're going to be merging ahead of them. This time there was a lot of traffic, and as I got down the slip road there was a car basically level with me. I thought 'fuck, now what' and slowed down so this car would pass and I could slot in behind it.

There were other cars ahead trying to join too, so I looked forward to check I wasn't about to run into the guy in front and looked to the side again. That car was still there, a little further ahead but still right next to me. I looked forward and slowed more, must have been down to about 30 or less at this stage, looked back again AND THE CAR WAS STILL THERE. I could see this woman at the wheel, shouting and waving her arms and generally going crazy as fuck. The dumbass had decided that instead of accelerating and getting out of the way, or changing lanes or something, she'd drop her speed dangerously low and that I should race ahead along what was left of the slip lane even though there were at least 3 other cars ahead of me. I think that was a finger moment, not that I had time for any of that
