I have a Thursday late afternoon/evening, Friday late afternoon/evening, and an entire Saturday to do things in the Seattle area. I never been to Seattle before and will be staying downtown and will have a rental car. Right now on my list, I have Experience Music Project, Space Needle, Elysian Brewing (the one on Pike St.) (any other brewpub recommendations?), and Canada. I have never been to Canada and since I will only be a couple of hours away, I would like to work that in. So any advice on traveling from Seattle to Canada? By car or by ferry (without a car)? Vancouver or Victoria? What is there to see and do there?

Victoria is fucking awesome, but if you wanna go there, it will be more than a couple hours, you have to go over by ferry and that takes at least a couple of hours. it rocks there though, sweet museums and shit.
Vancouver has some nive views and shit, i would check out maybe Gastown and Granville Island is pretty cool, it is actually underneath the Granville Street Bridge. |

so i have a couple of my buddies coming over in a couple minutes instead. it's no consolation, and they are a lot less fun to make out with, but i'll take it. |

i lived in seattle for a while. i hated it. but a good friend of mine is the head custodian at the market. you should definitely check it out if you plan on doing some shopping. though it's one of those places where you could spend hours and still not make it into every shop.

keep in mind that even though victoria is close you need to take a ferry. the ferry + waiting for it + at least half an hour drive to town on each end = around 4 hours. if you've only got a day or so in each place they're all good. they just built this new museum in victoria that is all about bc called experience bc and it's got like everything a local-knowledge-hungry tourist would want in one place, and is a block away from the legislative buildings which give great tours and you see the sessions.
also in vancouver at main and kingsway on the upper left corner there's a stop sign and on the backside of it someone engraved goatse.cx. a must see. |

The only thing interesting I've seen in Seattle, some dude once on the mtv real world was handling fish in an open market type place. My family noticed him, and I wouldn't know who he was, and also I can't remember where it was, and this was like 5 years ago. So actually I have nothing to recommend

There's nothing to see in this town. Have fun in the rain. You'll be here at a really fucked time of year. Driving to Canada will be a mistake. Sure, the drive is only a few hours but you'll sit in line for a long time trying to get back in to the US. Taking a ferry to Vancouver would be sorta dumb and expensive as well. Go to the punk bar called the Fun House. It's across the street from the Space Needle WHERE THEY THROW FISH and get drunk to hardcore music. Take a drive up Aurora and get some hookers and bad blow. Go to Belltown and score some crack and then walk over to Pioneer Square and smoke it with some homeless people. Check out Capitol Hill and buy some more crack, and check out the ultra cool indie rock kids and their sassy fashion style! Seriously, just drive across Lake Washington and go to Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond. The east side is more your style. Do some shopping and call it a day. The touristy shit here is pretty lame anyway. Except for Gasworks Park maybe but you won't be able to find that. |

Gasworks is kinda cool when it's nice outside. Forcast for Saturday: 100% chance of rain. My advice, go to the International District (Chinatown) that's always fun. Or go do the touristy stuff like the Space Needle etc... |

vancouver is pretty boring compared to seattle. it's not as pretty and there's not much to do. i was pretty disappointed when we visited.
emp is widely known to be a big joke but if you want to dish out 20 bucks to see a few guitars then go for it. places to eat: blue c sushi - conveyer belt sushi place. there are two locations - one in a giant outdoor shopping mall in the university district and one in the fremont neighborhood which is pretty cool to see jai thai - great thai food. there's one by the seattle center in bell town and one in fremont. if you go to belltown be careful. there's alot of homeless and crackheads at night. macrina bakery - great baked goods and they have brunch on the weekends top pot donuts - they're right by the seattle center. great unusual donuts and coffee there are alot of great seafood places but being a vegetarian i've never been to them. hit up citysearch if that's your thing. things to see: pike place - but you won't really see it well since its chock full of people on the weekends. cinerama - really cool old-fashioned movie theater. shopping - pike and pine at 5th - huge nordstrom, macy, westlake center queen anne neighborhood random tips: good luck driving around. i would try to walk or take the bus if you're gonna be downtown. driving around to the surrounding neighborhoods can be rather overwhelming and confusing. you won't need fancy clothes - seattle is the most casual place i've ever been to. if you don't need them don't bring them. bring comfortable waterproof shoes and a rain coat. the monorail is broken hmph i'll let you know if i think of anything else. |

actually, your statement is the exact opposite of the truth. i don't know how the fuck you wasted your time in Vancouver, but shame on you. its MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to waste your time in Seattle and have nothing to show for it. no wonder vancouver is consistently voted best city on the continent. |
