I got in a huge argument with a lady a few weeks ago while we were vacationing in Newport, OR. I used an entertainment coupon good for 25% off the total bill. On the back of the coupon it says "tipping should be 15%-20% of the bill before discount." She brought me back the bill, which I noticed only had about a 5% discount on it. I asked her what was going on.
She had crossed out "should" and wrote "SHALL" and forced me to tip - saying it was restraunt policy. I told her she was crazy for thinking she could simply line-item coupons and extract money over the contracted amount of our bill. Suffice it to say, I gave her my peice and then informed her I would never set foot in her restraunt again. If we didn't have another couple with us, I would have refused to pay anything and fought it without giving an inch on anything. $(*&@*$&$ extortionist! |

I hate American restaurateurs for passing their business expenses, which they write off, on to customers.
That is all a tip is - the ineptness and unwillingness of restaurant management to pay workers enough. They have instilled a system that humiliates customers who simply do not feel it is their responsibility to float owners' businesses. |

People feeling that they are entitled to recieve tips is lunacy.
Im working as a barman at the moment, and i get tips, but at the end of the day im just doing my job. If somebody is mixing me cocktails or is heading miles to the storeroom to get my drink ill tip. If im wasting their time by ordering one drink at a time as i ask friends what they want, ill tip. The rest get a thankyou. Because i know they can make my night hell if im being an arse and wasting everyones time. I sure know iv done it to customers myself. |
