Recommend me some My Bloody Valentine. What should I start with?

Also, what is this shoegaze stuff? Was it like, an offshoot of 80s new wave/goth or whatever? I have no idea.

i think isn't anything is the better record. it has better drumming, and the songs are somehow more lovely. but loveless is just as good...

as for MBV's EPs...you have to be careful: the early EPs from 85 to 87 (?) are more rock'n'roll like... if you like that kind of music, i can totally suggest the Geek EP from 85...(on LP) brilliant stuff...

also a must: the "you made me realize EP", "sunny sundae smile" [since this one is super-hard to get original look on slsk, it has the final band setup w/ kevin shields main vocals and Bilinda butcher]

as for live shows, the Boston Axis one from May31st 1989 rocks my socks off. totally look for that one on slsk

you should get both Loveless and Isn't Anything and then you can think about the EPs.

loveless is one of the most haunting, beautiful and original albums ever made and everyone should own it. sadly, in making it kevin shields lost his mind, filled his house with barbed wire and spent £ 250, 000 having it mixed at eight different front-rack studios.

kevin, we love you.

signs of kevin sheilds true genious can only be found on their debut album "this is your bloody valentine". on this amazing disc, mbv's attempts to capture beauty and sadness succeeds in a breathtaking manner. people keep bitching about loveless, but that record is unoriginal crap compared to the glory of the debut.
