After having some time to sit on it I've decided that their new album is really good. Not quite as brilliant as TDS, but pretty much on par with The Fragile. Regardless, I'm excited to see them (With Autolux!) in the fall.

there were a lot here and there and everywhere for a while, so i like him going without them for a change. the regular line from fans became "he should do an all-instrumental album." i appreciate when an artist goes "well, no, let's go this way instead."
and Leaving Hope was the perfect way to leave off on the instrumentals for a while. that's how i see it.

Well, lyricaly, he kinda blows the big one. I said musical genius. I mean, his lyrics work, but he is not gifted in that area.
But still, listen to All the love in the world, thats the only good example I can think of right now to back up my theory.
But also, like I said, I don't really mean that, just sorta.

Alright, how about this for an explanation.
In reference to the NIN=Beatles, I was really just joking about that. I don't buy into this whole this band is the modern this band. Like everyone says Oasis is the modern Beatles. Which is crap, because if they sound like the Beatles, they are not the modern form of them, because the Beatles wrote songs that stretched the definition of rock, and took it in new directions, they were not the first to do many of these things, but they did come up with some new stuff on their own, however they did receive credit for most of them because they were the most famous. In a similar way, NIN has (while not invented industrial) shown rock that you can use synthesizers and other non-traditional instruments and still rock, opening the way for a new age of rock. Is that a good enough explanation of my statement?
As for Reznor's lyrics, they connect with his audience, I get alot out of them, but he is hung up on the same stuff he was singing 15 years ago, you can tell by how he delivers them they are heartfelt, but they are rather simplistic, I'm not saying that his lyrics are bad, just that he is not a great lyricists, he uses the same metaphors and phrases over and over.
Anything else I was not clear on?
Lastly, I'm sorry if I don't know who this Bonser fellow is, if I did, I could perhaps answer as too whether or not I was his sidekick.

I really don't understand why people like to knock on Trent's lyrics. Personally, I think compared to all the rest of the crap out there, his are great.
Besides, some of Trent's lyrics are pretty famous even for people who don't like Nine Inch Nails or even really know who they are. People from my school would always sing Head Like A Hole for some reason... Or, perfect example: "I want to fuck you like an animal"
I don't think you could have someone else write the lyrics and still call them Nine Inch Nails...Its just part of the music, and something I really like about it. They're deep, but not incomprehensible. You can relate...they're catchy...and they work.

By the way, "alot" is two words.
Anyway...okay thanks for explaining your retarded comment about the Beatles comparison. I was hoping you were somehow...joking.
And as for the lyrics, I don't agree (see last post for my thoughts).
And last...****** was the guy you quoted in the post:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/katitious/******.jpg">
The reason I asked if you were being his sidekick was because neither one of us were talking to you, or directing anything toward you...and you just come in like ******'s hype man...with nothing relevant to say but "YEAH!" It just kinda made me giggle...that's all.

yeah. its great. but it'd be awesome if it packed a tad more punch. it feels kinda under-produced.
Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has revealed that fans may see a follow-up to May’s ‘With Teeth’ album as soon as next year. “We’re already in talks about when we can put it out,” Reznor tells Kerrang!. “‘With Teeth’ was finished but my creative cycle isn’t, so I’m trying to focus and apply myself to writing while I’m on the road.” Reznor added that while five songs didn’t make the final cut of ‘With Teeth’, they won’t necessarily appear on the as-yet untitled album. “I’ll see if they fit with the new stuff. If so, then great, but I’m not using them like ‘Oh, look I’m already halfway done’. They may just show up as B-sides.” The forthcoming album will mark NIN’s fifth full-length since the band’s debut in 1989.

oh crap i didn't realize this thread got so big-
lyrically i think the man's got talent. there *are* some songs (esp on the new album) where i don't think i appreciate them as much as i have on previous albums (btw- The great below, is an example of some of my fav lyrics btw "ocean pulls me close and whispers in my ear" *shivers*)
as far as the new album- i think my least fav song is "love is not enough" and "the hand that feeds" (altho musically it's kinda catchy, i don't think it makes much sense how the music and lyrics go together- anyway hard to explain)
..
and my favs are "all the love in the world" "you know what you are" (DEF that one) and "sunspots"
all i know is i can NOT wait to see them on 11/2 at the MCI center. tix go on sale this weekend PPL!!!
i will be there earrrllly.

His lyrics are, on the whole, weak. One or two good lines, but they are there to carry his music, not the other way around.
And sometimes they kinda make me think, ‘Is he aware that his target market are angry teenage Goths, and that’s why he sings about this kind of stuff, constantly, or is he going to grow up sometime?’
But I love trent, and NIN.

Really? I thought prices for the seats were cheaper? You should just rush the floor after the show starts. Just make sure you do it with a crowd so you have less of a chance of getting caught.
Also when did they change the date to the tenth? I didn't even realize it when I purchased my tickets.

What exactly are you arguing? And why exactly are you arguing with me specifically, if lots of other people attacked his writing skills, as well as his music, actually.

I did NOT "equate populatrity to talent" and if you can't understand that I was simply saying that Trent's lyrics are Trent's STYLE lyrics...like, you wouldn't be able to take Alex Grey's artwork and say its anybody else's style. Well, that's how I feel about Trent's lyrics. Everyone knows him, knows his style, etc.
Also, the point of me saying that I knew people who knew the lyrics but didn't know the band...were the fact that they're catchy. They don't have to be popular to be catchy...but catchy things usually tend to end up being popular. Don't confuse yourself, baden.
And if you actually read the entire entry...you might understand why saying this:
