View Full Version : what are your opinions on the marketing angle of this well time announcement
melodic skys 06-22-2005, 12:49 AM while billy is probably being sincere with this news.. he is freakin genious.. i had 2 people who arn't billly/sp fans IM/email me today about the news because it is EVERYWHERE..
he's FUCKING with the media instead of getting fucked over by them..
also, how come it seems like every story on the pumpkins/billy now is all happy-go-lucky... when the pumpkins existed they mostly got trashed by mainstream press.. its funny how they have done a 180.. its all about how great the pumpkins were how much they sold and their 2 grammies and alt-rock legends and stuff...
brilliant... marketing genious....
lets see top news story on mtv.com, vh1.com, spin.com, rollingstone.com, music.yahoo.com, news.google.com (entertainment section).. im sure a whole lot more...
if he did this in say 6mo or a year instead of today everyone would see it as the failure of TFE causing him to go this way, because he did it today, it can't be nearly as easily labled a failure in the regular persons eyes (even if some believe its more an act of desperation, myself not decided on that) so the press focus on it as a positive not a negative thing against Billy.. i think it's perfectly timed from so many aspects..

well unfortunatly most of those threads really just contain like a million "omg is it true.. " non-sense.. its not possible to actually carry on a focused discussion about a paticular topic with out it getting so wattered down it's meaningless...
this is a message board and it has more purposes than for people just to fill up a thread with a billion tangents.

Hello, welcome to Netphoria.
well i know its possible to have some decent conversations here.. it really depends on the day, and who is browsing the forum.. its not all a waste of time.. but how many postings are there now to my topic that are totally OFF TOPIC? including my replies? i wish we could moderate our own threads.. that'd rock. if you don't like the moderation, make you're own thread and moderate it...
seems like the only way to not just waste space exchanging msgs like this and the ones ive been replying too.

i didn't write the quote that you quoted.. its like two of my sentances are melted together and it doesn't have the same meaning.

uhh i have picked up that there are at least pretty much three distinct types of conversations that occur on netphoria
1.) mostly random bashing of some sort on someone billy, fan, rowberry, whoever..
2.) all kinds or just like "omg is it true! im crying" type of stuff from what you call the o-boarders
3.) real discussions about many aspects of billy/zwan/pumpkins
search my post history.. you will see that #3 can and does exist, although i realize its the minority... its still the type i prefer, and i try, and sometimes i get decent replies.. other times shit spews from the mouthes of the posters like that link to the photo of that chick that all too often is posted.

i agree with you. lol
melodic skys 06-22-2005, 01:42 AM looks like this thread is relegated to the bargin bin.. i give up.. maybe i should take out a full page ad in the hollywood reporter and talk about how i will be resuming my posting under my old forum screen name.. that is sure to generate a buzz.
jk.
Starla 06-22-2005, 02:27 AM I'd have to say his little announcement was definitely a great ploy to draw more attention to himself and TFE' release.
Good thread.
