I'd go for "Galore" and "Staring At the Sea". Their singles give a great indication of how the band evolved over time. It will also give you a good idea of which albums you want to check out first.

Disintegration is their best album, as an album. However, this cd will wean you on The Cure like no other, trust me. Nobody will listen to this album & not love lots at least. Unless they'll never really like the cure anyways...
